Jadeite strode through the corridors of the Earth Palace, a wry smirk planted cleanly across his angular face. The sun had not even graced the day, but Jadeite wanted to wake his Prince early. His pace quickened as he neared Endymion’s chambers.
Today was the day— the public spar match had finally come. And although Jadeite would be a mere spectator, he felt refreshed at the opportunity to watch friends and strangers alike tear into each other in hopes of being victorious.
With the ability to mix in with the public, he was no longer confined to a button-up general’s uniform. Instead, he wore simple black pants and a crème long-sleeved top.
His mind was alive, yearning and thinking of the clash of steel and other such weapons. Like all Endymion’s generals, he had thirst for battle. It wasn’t about gore or dominance for Jadiete. It was about individuals having the strength to do whatever necessary for survival.
He quietly perched near his Prince’s bed. The long forest green curtains still encircled Endymion’s bed. His lips flickered, the smirk grew into a grin. His hands tugged on the bell chord to pull the curtains back and awaken his Prince. “Get up Endymion!” He howled with excitement.
To his surprise, there was only a hurricane of pillows and an indentation in the middle of the mattress where his Prince should have been. Hm, perhaps he was losing his touch. Or, if he was honest, his Prince was growing more shifty in his ability to sneak outside the watchful gaze of his guardians for privacy.
He straightened his posture, looking out the window in Endymion’s chamber out into the sprawling courtyard. “Where is he now.” He sighed. He knew Kunzite would already be awake somewhere, but Endymion was all together less predictable.

Prince Endymion:
The darkness of the middle of the night was broken only by the slivers of moonlight scattered across the bedchamber’s floor. Although it was late at night, sleep refused to beckon him tonight. Endymion’s gaze was fixed upon the elegant fabric canopy above him, as his mind wandered to thoughts of the today’s main event, the Public Spar Match. He and Kunzite would be the two participants from Earth’s Royalty competing today; Kunzite was sure to be an honorable opponent for the young warrior.
The sun would soon began its rise into the morning sky which was all the convincing Endymion needed to begin his day, as though the coming of the sun beckoned to him to reveal in the first moments of morning's light. It wasn't nearly time to dress in his battle garments, so he changed into something more acceptable than his bed clothes, a loose navy shirt and brown casual slacks. Taking hold of his sheathed sword, pulling the strap over his head before throwing open the elegant French doors that lead to his second floor balcony. Smirking, he easily slipped over the balcony’s edge, before lowering himself closer to the ground, before allowing himself to fall the last few feet to the ground.
The balcony faced the royal garden courtyard, to which the young man took off from his squatted landing position to a light sprint, heading towards the edges of the gardens lined by trees. Endymion paused by a large oak tree, placing a hand against the rough bark, as he deeply inhaled the crisp morning air. Deep blue eyes shifted about, sensing a presence nearby, who had the sense to be in the gardens so early? It was illogical that even he should be awake at the dawning of the day. Brushing aside the few ebony hairs that drifted into his gaze, he quietly drew his sword before pressing his back against the bark of the tree as he stealthily crept about its edge. Sword at the ready as the figure he sensed came into view.
The sight of the familiar silver-white hair elicited a rather irritable ‘hmph’ from the Prince. Sheathing his sword as he moved away from the tree looking towards Kunzite with a smirk tugging at his lips.
“I see even my trees need constant supervision these days, Kunzite-kun? Troubled times appear to be upon us, hm?”

Kunzite's lips tightened into a reserved smirk, reveling in the fact he had been able to read his Prince's intentions. It was a mark of pride for him as his top General and a mark of the bond they shared as friends.
Arrayed his his general's garb, he spoke as he squared himself and bowed at the shoulders to Endymion, "My Liege," he said cooly, using the overly formal phrase that Endymion hated, "It is the pride of your bodyguard that we keep an even better vigil for you than these silent witnesses." He rose, and his eyes smiled at Endymion with a mark of triumph, "For while they would have watched you go and said nothing, I know that my Prince can't help but anticipate our fight today. Are you that eager for last minute practice? Perhaps worried that your general still has tricks to teach you in the art of swordplay?"

“You know, a spar is like a wedding,” Jadiete said as he leaned casually against a nearby tree. His right foot propped up against the groves in the bark for support, arms crossed. “It’s bad luck to see each other before the big event.” He grinned, pushing away from the tree via the ball of his foot.
Perhaps a part of him was grumpy that Kunzite so easily had tracked down their Prince; whereas, Jadiete had fallen a step behind. There was still much that he could learn from their lead general. He would continue to soak in the knowledge and training that the man whom he considered a brother would allow him to obtain.
“What brings you out here this early Endymion?” He questioned. “You know it’s fine for you to wander—if you let your guards know, or at least let someone know that you’re leaving the premises.” He shook his head, letting his tongue press against and pull away from the roof of his mouth to create a “tsk tsk tsk” noise.
If Kunzite would not chastise Endymion for his wiles, Jadiete would do so, gently at least.
As the sun began to grace the day’s presence, Jadiete groaned. He’d much rather be in bed, dreaming of his own personal conquests. “If you both are going to continue your battle love fest, I’ll reside back in the shadows. Not like either of you are pining for my skills to test you both prior to the spar.” He pouted with a coy smile. He was just having fun with them both, but yes, he was in a foul humor.

Endymion rolled his stormy sapphire eyes, exasperated by Kunzite's rather unnecessary formalities. Although birth had dictated his royal heritage, it was something he would rather cast aside than embrace. He imagined that without the confines of the crown his life would be filled with excitement and adventures that he scarcely dream of. It was no consequence, for his lineage had set forth the course of his life, as his General reminded him. Forever he was 'kept' by his four guardians, his Generals and comrades. Fate had favored him, for his Generals were more than just comrades, they were his friends, who though they protected him, they also embraced the man beneath the title.
That left hand descended roughly upon Kunzite's right shoulder, clasping it for a moment, his face bearing mock concern as he looked to the other man, "Worried, indeed! I always fear embarrassing my best general in such a public forum. Your self esteem is of great concern to me, dear friend." A genuine chuckle rose from his throat, before releasing his grip, attention shifting to the approaching of Jadeite.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lip at the man's wedding quip and the reprimand that swiftly followed. "Hmm, that's a rule I don't remember hearing about Jadeite-kun..." Endymion quietly accepted the scolding with a grain of salt. The weight of copious rules and asinine regulations came with the burden of his status. It seemed to follow that 'wandering' about one's own palace would be frowned upon. At least it was found highly unfavorable behavior for the Prince of Earth. He attempted to laugh it off, to put on a charade that told the men of his goal to remain within palace's elegant stone walls. Innocently he scratched at the back of his head, those broad shoulders rising and setting with a non-nonchalant shrug.
"Jadeite, allow me to assure you, that I had every intention of letting one of you know. However, it was so terribly early, I wanted to ensure that you all were well rested for today. Forgive me." Voice void of all sarcasm, the facade may have convinced others, but the two men before him were never so easily fooled; he hoped that for this moment they would accept it. Of course, had he been able to make it to the castle's wall, he would have stealthily sneaked over it to relax by Kosuke Lake. His balcony gave him a perfect view of the lake, but experiencing pieces of his life from a distance was an all too familiar emotion, one he had long grown weary of.
How was he to make mistakes, grow up, learn new lesson, adapt to change or even fall in love, when his body guards were forever shielding him from the world's perils?
A formidable warrior, trained since he was a young boy, Prince Endymion was someone to be feared in battle. "Gentleman, we do have a grand day ahead of us. Oh, and Jadeite, I do hope you're prepared to console Kunzite upon his impending loss.." That wry smirk once again finding its way to his lips, no severity in his expression as the banter helped feel alive, helped him prepare for the day.

Kunzite's expression hardened as Jadeite talked. It wasn't that the General was mad at his fellow bodyguard, but rather that he put so much stock in proper conduct that the thinly veiling whining of Jadeite struck him as beneath his station. Still, he also would not rebuke him in front of his Prince, which also be affront to his honor. After all, Jadeite was right to remind the Prince of the weight of his station. Kunzite himself would have overlooked it because he too was excited for the fight, and putting personal interests above right conduct was also beneath his station. So, by roundabout, Kunzite accepted Jadeite's rebuke for himself and reminded himself just how important it would be to keep their wits about them with so grand an intermingling of peoples who would show up for this event.
The though of logistics distracted the General's attention so that Kunzite only half heard Endymion's faux apology, "If Your Royal Highness acknowledges that we all have much to fret over for today's functions, even the pride of your Generals, I am satisfied." he responded, delivering the self-effacing humor with all seriousness.
Then he turned to Jadeite with the question on his mind, "So, how are our security preparations for today? Is everything in place to keep the crowds orderly?"

At Endymion’s apology Jadiete bent half of his body forward, curving his arm to the right, bending at the elbow. His hand rested in a gentle fist near his chest. He bowed his head in respect.
“I accept your apology, your highness.” He said with eyes half closed, looking to the ground. “To be fair, next time I’ll be less forgiving.” He added, lifting his gaze to his friend carefully. They all had roles and responsibility that sat in contention of the slippery bond the group had. But, their duty to protect the Prince and set careful boundaries for him remained.
Jadiete resumed his straightened posture as he gave a nod to Kunzite. “Zoisite and Nephrite are currently at the arena supervising final assignments,” he began. “We’ll have a post of twelve guards at the main entrance and twelve more at the exit. Nephrite and Zoisite will ensure stability at those points.” He added, hoping the arrangements pleased Kunzite. “A few of the old guard will be peppered within the crowds for extra security, if needed. Of course, a small contingent will remain at the palace.” He finished.
"Are there any other arrangements you wish me make, Kunzite?" He questioned. "You can send a carrier if necessary." He added.
“I best go and assist Zoisite and Nephrite in final preparations, but I’ll see you both at the arena.” He bowed. A small grin began to manifest itself over his lips as he turned and began to walk away. “I’ll have wine and hunting gear ready for the loser. It’s a dangerous combination, but I know Kunzite would prefer nothing less than debauchery after a public scorning.” He chided, merely turning his head to give them both one more look before continuing on his way.

Endymion's gaze darkened in seriousness to convince the two men that he would stop sneaking off. Granted, he would seek out any reprieve from this cage that he could garner. But perhaps those times would show him asking forgiveness rather permission; it was evident by the intensity of Jadeite's gaze that he would never be granted permission. His father, the King of Earth, had surely seen that his son be held to unreasonably strict regimens and schedules. 'That is the way of the Royal Family, Endymion. Our crown is heavy, and a price we must pay.' He'd never asked for this.
Bowing his head in turn to Jadeite and then Kunzite, "I assure you, I acknowledge the impropriety of my actions." He then folded his arms across his chest, the gaze of his dark blue eyes shifting between the two as they spoke of the guards being stationed at the event. It seemed silly, to post so many guards at an event where so many able bodied warriors would be present. Smirking to himself, fully understanding it was all for his protection. For his safety was to be considered above all things.
As Jadiete prepared to leave, Endymion smiled to him, "Thank Zoisite and Nephrite for me, I won't be seeing them until later. Thank you for your attention to detail with security arrangements. Please know I appreciate your passion." Reaching to firmly shake the man's hand before he headed out.
It was a strange line drawn in the sand with his generals. They were men he often looked to as his friends, however, above all things, they were his protectors. Tasked with a heavy burden of ensuring the crown prince was safe at all times. He often made their job easy, following the rules; but many times arose where he'd desperately seek a moment of freedom, to make his choices.
Endymion laughed lightly at Jadiete's promise of wine and promises of hunting to the loser. He was no fool, Kunzite had trained him in battle and was certainly a formidable opponent. A loss at the hand of his best General, Kunzite would be an honorable defeat so he wasn't concerned. Pride lingered on the edge of his senses, he would still put his all into the spar.
“So Kunzite, are you concerned that the student may instruct the teacher today?” Smirking once again while awaiting his answer, he turned his face towards the dawning of the day, wondering how serene and lovely a scene the rising sun would have been over Kosuke Lake. Inhaling deeply, he didn’t turn to face the other man as he spoke, “Well, we got ourselves an excellent day for the spar, hmm?”

Kunzite smiled lightly and shook his head toward Jadeite, "No, everything sounds in order. Give my thanks to Zoisite and Nephrite as well." He concluded with a small bow of the shoulders toward his colleague by way of thanks and dismissal. It was difficult to keep a calm poise when there was so much going into this event. Not only was he sparring with his Prince, but there was also the matter of keeping the Earth people - famously known for their barbarism and greed within the Solar Empire, as he liked to call it - in line. They had received no RSVPs from anyone on the Moon, but he had fully expected that. If anyone came, they would come with elegance and arrogance and without any warning. They considered themselves Earth's "distant protectors." Kunzite considered them more like distant parents who only engaged in conversation when it was time to scold; never to praise. It weighed on his mind often that Earth was still refused a spot among the Moon Princess' royal bodyguards. But, if any of the Moon nobility did show, he wanted them to see the best side of what Earth had to offer - Honor, bravery, resilience, and pride.
"Debauchery indeed." Kunzite muttered under his breath after Jadeite departed. Kunzite's militaristic demeanor, strict discipline...his whole way of life was propped up to present his planet and his Prince as strong and capable. He hated being looked down upon by the other Planets, as he was sure in his bones that they were, and he'd be damned if he'd ever be caught sullying that strong image he had worked his entire adult life cultivating.
Shaking the thought out of his head with annoyance, he drew himself back into the moment. His Prince was addressing him,
"No, Endymion-sama. Rather, I hope that you have taken to heart what I have taught you and made it your own. Indeed, I hope you have learned more about fighting than about sneaking out of the palace....else it might be a boring fight indeed." He said with much feigned gravity, speaking more as his instructor than as his General, for outside of that capacity he would never dare to insult or contradict his Prince.
General Kunzite stepped to Endymion's side, eyes fixed on the birthing dawn, "Truly a glorious day." he remarked succinctly, yet the glowing light tinged something different in him. He felt today was important, like something grand was in the waiting, but he somehow felt it was not the duel....but something with much more lasting consequence. And that disquieted him.

Jadiete rounded about the main square of town, gaze spanning over his work. Beyond simple security measures, he had built the plans for the vast arena that wrapped around him. He dragged his feet playfully against the rugged dirt ground, surveying the many loops of long wooden benches that cascaded down near him. They encircled the main middle ring where all the action would take place.
Commoners would have the ability to feel close to the fights, but remain at a distance so that they could neither hurt nor interfere with any outcomes. The ring itself had barriers placed strategically to slow down flocking crowds at a moment’s notice.
And for the briefest moment, he closed his eyes, imagining the cheers and the clashes of steel on steel. It was exhilarating to dream of—and even more so to see in reality. His mind wandered back to his Prince and the firm grip on his shoulder. He knew of the man’s restlessness. A part of him feared if he and his fellow generals were not able to give their Prince some freedom, or at least an impression of freedom, that they’d lose him. He would need to discuss things further with Kunzite in private, however.
He wanted to tell Endymion that the securities were merely formalities. Endymion had been trained just as Jadiete, and he’d be perfectly capable of protecting himself in any pesky situation that could arise that day. He felt quite torn in his duties as of late, but a great deal of pressure weighed on him. He knew Kunzite expected no less than perfection, and Jadiete hoped to meet that super-human bar.
“Have all approved vendors had their goods surveyed and finalized for entrance into the arena?” He asked Nephrite. The other man seemed so engrossed in the tight corsets and pretty faces of the common ladies all pining for attention that he half answered Jadiete’s question. Jadiete, tugged at the man’s shirt, pulling him into accordance. “Can you think with your real head for a moment at least.” He groaned, pushing the man back to focus to ensure everything was in order.
Zoisite would be on the outskirts of the arena, putting up an extra set of barriers prior to perching himself within the arena at its highest point. He would watch everything play out from a far and be prepared to act if anything out of the ordinary occurred.
Jadiete lifted his head, allowing the rays of sun to deepen their warm kiss upon his face. “It’s going to be a beautiful day.” He assured himself, placing his hands on his hips. “Very soon these stands will be full of humanity in for some danger, drama and fun.” He mused. He simply hope all the battles delivered.
It only seemed right that he'd sample a few of the delectable treats prepared by the vendors to ensure he was aware and focused when the event began. He chuckled, going off to do just that with his favorite salty and sweet food combination.

A faint snicker could be heard in the quiet morning at Kunzite’s revelation of Jadeite’s back up plan for the loser. The silver haired man beside him seemed lost for a moment in his thoughts, a frequent occurrence. It was to be expected from the leader of his four generals, Kunzite was tasked with both keeping the Prince and the other three men in line. Fortunately (and unfortunately) the man had achieved a mastery of anticipating any bold moves he attempted.
It seemed with every passing year of his life, Endymion realized more and more how truly trapped he was; that he’d made so few of his own choices. Was this truly what he was destined for? A life of masked servitude to the Crown of Earth? The thoughts sounded dramatic as they played out in the dark haired man’s mind; an indistinct smirk tugging at his lips at Kunzite’s eventual response. Clearing his throat emphatically, exasperation haunting the edges of his words, “Hmmm, really laying it on thick today? I’m eighteen years old, you should be pleased that the worst of my faults is the occasional desire to sneak to a nearby lake.” Holding up a hand to pause a response, he continued, “I follow my strict rule regimen most of the time, Kunzite-Kun. Surely I can’t be too terribly troublesome…” Eyebrows raised in inquiry as mirth flickered in his dark blue eyes.
A heavy sigh raised from his chest as he glanced back towards the palace, replying with a hint of sarcasm, “Hmmm, perhaps we should begin equipping ourselves for today. I must ensure that I’m properly attired for fictitious battle.” The two men walked quietly back to the elegant palace before them, both seemingly stuck within their own worlds. Excitement caused his heart to clatter in his chest as he prepared for the event; it wasn’t often he was able to let loose and fight as he wanted. More often than not he was in lessons, being scripted in all things, how to defend, how to lunge. It was exhausting forever feeling more like a puppet than a real person with hopes, dreams and desires of his own.
Reaching their destination, they split ways to their respective bedchambers to prepare. After sometime dressing, Endymion finally fastened the leather belt that held his faithful sword at his left hip, ready to be drawn. The finishing piece and as far as he was concerned, the most important. Casting a sidelong glance towards the mirror, he saw himself looking as he did in his royal portrait. Powerful, revered and serious; seemingly ready for the battle of a lifetime. He laughed out loud to the empty room at the irony. Although he looked like any proper prince should, he was more guarded than most. Endlessly being told how to act, sit, think, feel, exist… he wondered for a moment if he’d ever truly chosen something for himself. A sad realization struck him that perhaps he never had. For someone who was meant to rule a planet as grand and wonderful as Earth, he was deeply disturbed at his lack of ability to make choices. Refusing to let it mar his day, he pushed the tormented contemplation aside to be dealt with another time.
Stepping into the hallway outside his bedchamber, he noted Kunzite’s stoic presence patiently awaiting his arrival. Always patient. Always punctual. Always present. It was expected at this point. Bowing his head to the general, Endymion looked back up and smirked a bit mischievously, “It appears the rumors were false my friend, you clean up just fine.” Enjoying the moment of humor at his general’s expense, the two began their walk to the arena. Many servants threw themselves at the men, begging to allow them to call them a coach or perhaps carry them upon their own shoulders. Politely the Prince refused all of their offers. Heavens, was it truly frowned upon for him to even walk escorted by only one of his Generals? The formality of his station was overwhelming at times.
As they walked the route to the arena, the view of the palace at their back faded seamlessly into the serene horizon. Endymion’s somber sapphire gaze washed over the farms far in the distance; barely visible from where they traveled. What he would give to be a poor farmer, struggling, fighting daily for the most basic of needs, but able to carve out one’s own future. The desire to choose a new path was forever simmering beneath the calm surface. Surely it would blossom to fruition someday soon. But for now, he tore his gaze from the farmland and gripped Kunzite’s shoulder as the arena came into view, still in the distance. “There it is, Kunzite-kun. Do try to live a little today, it’s expected of you.” The prince nudged his arm with his own, hoping to rile a bit of excitement in the general.

The rising sun caught Kunzite's silver hair and he inclined his head respectfully toward the Earth Prince, "Of course not, Endymion-sama, you are no trouble. We keep you on your toes while preparing you to rule, and you keep your generals on their toes while you exert yourself. It seems only like a fair trade." he commented with a thin smile.
It was not difficult to read Endymion's resentment over the constant constraint of supervision and correction. It was not in Kunzite's nature to berate his Prince over that. He was to be King, of course, and a King should feel empowered to be who he wanted to be. The General's duty, as far as he saw it, was to properly mold Endymion's sense of honor, responsibility, and the weightiness of his rule so that when he was fired in the kiln of the Crown, he would know the impact of the decisions he handed down to his subjects. "To be a strong leader," Kunzite had once remarked to Endymion, "one must first know how to be a good follower."
All those memories of Endymion's royal training floated on the surface of Kunzite's mind as they walked along and eventually went their separate ways to prepare. As a man of militaristic simplicity, Kunzite's preparation was merely the addition of an hauberk he wore under his grey general's uniform (done up to bit a bit flashier for the crowd, but otherwise the same) and a sword and shield that he carried as his primary weapon set.
Greeting his Prince outside his room, Kunzite was glad to see Endymion wasn't letting any personal feelings interfere with his mood, "But of course. I want to make you work at scuffing up my appearance." he responded with his typical reserved humor. And it was a good thing too, as all the servants who scuttled like expectant puppies at Endymion's feet annoyed him even more than his Prince. If one was to be a servant, he thought, he should conduct himself in a way that reflected his master well. Fawning over Endymion made it look like he was a overindulgent slob. He would have a....word with these servants later for their unbecoming attitude.
When the majesty of the castle finally gave way to the majesty of the planet, Kunzite allowed him an almost open smile. He saw the arena in the distance and the battle fury rumbled in his gut. To fight under the open sky, against a worthy opponent, and before those who gave allegiance to the crown all came together for a superb afternoon. Kunzite inclined his again again toward his Prince at the latter's command, "Of course, my Liege. It is in battle that a true warrior is most alive."
Although he sounded sincere, and despite his earlier trash talk, Kunzite knew this wouldn't be a true fight for him. He was his Prince's highest general, and he owed Endymion a good fight, but never one that would dishonor him before his people. Kunzite hoped he would enjoy a challenge from Endymion, but he was already prepared to throw the fight when the timing was favorable. Or, perhaps, Endymion would have surpassed his skills enough where he would lose while still giving his best. Kunzite's smile brightened, thinking that would be the result of today that would give him the greatest joy.

“Hmm, one of your infamous lines, Kunzite-Kun. Very true though. Although, are we still most alive if we are not truly battling for our lives?” Endymion countered, eyebrows raised in question and tapping his chin in genuine contemplation. It was easy to fall prey to Kunzite’s thought provoking statements. Or at least for the rather serious Prince it was. Perhaps that was the reason that he learned so easily from the silver-haired general. That he so readily absorbed his wisdom in all things, always eager to learn the lessons he presented to him.
The men approached the arena which was currently devoid of the myriad of people whom would soon fill it beyond capacity. Endymion smirked, his sweeping sapphire gaze absorbing every detail about the stadium before him. It was simple enough in design yet effective. Clearly well thought out by Zoisite and Nephrite, whom he saw across the way. Raising a hand to acknowledge them as they made their way over to him.
Glancing at Kunzite, “It seems everything truly is in order. You may actually just have to relax and enjoy the moment since there is nothing for you to over-scrutinize…” Sarcasm lay thickly in the words as he spoke, a bemused smirk adorning his face as he rested his hands upon the outer railing of the arena, not facing the men as he spoke.
“Zoisite, Nephrite. You’ve both done an amazing job. Thank you for all your dedication to this endeavor…” Although outwardly he exuded the proper calm demeanor of prince, inwardly he felt his heart begin to race with raw anticipation. It was the instances that gave him a reprieve from the monotony of his daily life that he cleaved for more and more lately. It seemed as he grew older that his life became even less and less about his own choices or desires and more about how he would take the throne. Sometimes the weight of his crown was exhausting, a burden he desperately wanted to shirk, even if only temporarily.
Releasing his grip on the railing, turning to face the four men before him, a small smile brightening his expression. “Although I’m not quite sure whose idea this was, I’m grateful, we don’t get too many days to let loose and forget our responsibilities for a day…” Endymion’s voice trailed off. He was fully aware that today was no vacation for his Generals, as they were forever faithful in their endeavor to protect him, a task that became increasingly complicated with hundreds of people around. Yet, he hoped that they would at least enjoy themselves.
He certainly would.

“Hm. You give them too much credit, really.” Jadiete quipped from behind as he neared the group surveying the arena.
“Unless you count making final, final arrangements and talking about female conquests.” He scoffed. “Then both have been extremely helpful.” He grinned.
As Endymion took refuge near the banister, Jadiete closed the distance. “Regarding your earlier comment about feeling alive in fake battle.” He began. “You have an exceptional foundation and training, like many other warriors Endymion. The difference, you have the will and fortitude to fight for your life if it were truly ever in danger.” He stressed.
“Even with years of training and skill, there are many who would not have the natural abilities you do to survive.” He added. It was one, a way of reminding Endymion that all places in the Earth Kingdom had ears and eyes. But also, Endymion was more of tested and battle-ready warrior than he gave himself credit for.
He put a strong arm on his Prince’s shoulder. “Besides,” Jadiete began, spinning to address the entire group. “This is a tournament. So if you want to fight your dear teacher, you have to win out in your bracket. More surprisingly, Kunzite will have to defeat everyone in his.” He deadpanned.
At least Kunzite was in a good humor, so he would not chastise Jadiete too much for his comments. The man looked to his silver-haired brother, gaze narrowing. “Kunzite, do you have a moment to speak alone?” He questioned. There were a great deal of unspoken words that all the Generals could have with one another. With two passing glances Zoisite and Nephrite were back to their duties and Kunzite knew Jadiete had concerns to share regarding their Prince.

Endymion’s eyebrows raised and set at Jadiete’s seemingly accurate account of some of Zoisite and Nephrite’s ‘activities’. The generals certainly couldn’t allow someone to accept a compliment without giving them a hard time. He was eternally grateful for the banter they brought to his life, he hated to imagine how much more serious and unapproachable he may be without their influence. A bemused expression brightened his face although he didn’t turn to face the blonde man as he approached.
As the general gave him somewhat uncharacteristically motivational speech, the dark haired man’s head shifted slightly to glance at him; surprise touching his features as he spoke. Did he truly seem so amiss these days that even Jadiete was getting inspirational? Regardless, the man’s words were genuine and encouraging. As the Crown Prince of Earth it seemed at least half of his worth was tied to his warrior status. To know he was reaching at least some of those impossibly high standards set forth by his father and even himself was refreshing.
Granted, today was a day to just enjoy the company of the kingdom’s greatest warriors. Turning in sync with Jadiete due to the arm around his shoulder, Endymion couldn’t help but laugh slightly at Kunzite’s expense. The thought was ludicrous in theory. For everything he knew in the art of battle and sword-fighting had been taught to him by the silver haired general. Perhaps he was a natural, and if that was true, then more than likely they would indeed be battling it out in the end.
Clearing his throat, a smirk still lingering upon his face at Jadiete’s theatrics as he spoke, “Well, Jadiete, your words of encouragement are greatly appreciated. But today is my ultimate test.” Meeting Kunzite’s gaze for a moment, “If I have truly learned enough then we shall battle it out at the end. And if not… then I suppose lessons will be brutal from here on out…”
Endymion stepped away from them, allowing them to do whatever it was they needed to tend to. Closing his eyes he allowed his other senses to absorb the still of the moment. Soon the last thing he’d be doing would be feeling the sun upon his face or listening to the subtle breeze rustle the tree branches.
