Nephrite snickered at the notion of Jadiete acting as a court justice. “Surely the thought of you presiding over anything would anyone’s blood to run cold, Jadiete.” Pushing himself roughly from the chair, he meandered over to the drink table, fingertips idly tapping the tops of the bottles before selecting one. Pouring himself a glass he raised it in the air.
“To Endymion, finally pursuing a beautiful, young woman!” The brown haired general grinned widely, it was too easy in this single moment to tease Endymion; especially when he was usually so calm and collected. After the mock toast, he took a hearty swig of the drink, the harsh nectar numbing his throat on its way down. Clearing his throat he moved closer to Endymion, almost taking to pity him for a moment. “You see, even though Jadiete is acting like his usual idiotic self, he’s not completely wrong and Zoisite poses a fair question as well.” Shrugging he gripped the Prince’s shoulder and squeezed it, granting his friend a small window of reprieve. “Forgive us... we’re just terribly curious about someone who finally caught your eye…” He grinned broadly and winked before releasing his grip on his shoulder.
“On that note, do continue to regale us with all the details of your… endeavor with this fair maiden…” Nephrite proclaimed as he sauntered back to his seat, reclining comfortably in it once again. As the scene continued to unfold he sipped casually at his drink. Glancing over at his more serious, silver haired brother he smirked at the expression upon his face. It seemed impossible, but even Kunzite seemed engaged by this line of questioning. It was rather out of character for the Prince to act as he did today, perhaps the fact was most perplexing to Kunzite. As far as performing their jobs as Generals to the Prince of Earth, Endymion was a fairly easy one to keep track of. This was disconcerting to say the least. Amusing, yes. But troublesome indeed. Nephrite recognized the look in Endymion’s gaze, the determination that he so often wore with pride.
He wasn’t going to stop until he found her again.

Kunzite was growing angry as Jadiete mocked the Prince. In other circumstances, it might have been as humorous as the other general made it out to be. But Kunzite knew, as they all should, that antagonizing the Prince did not humble him, but strengthened his resolve. If they backed Endymion into a corner, he might just chase this moon girl "throughout the universe."
So he intercepted Nephrite’s inquisition with a sardonic tone, “We’re all very interested in what kind of woman would actually be able to get you to shirk your usually staunch sense of duty, Endymion. The torn up cape you left behind particularly troubled me. But…Jadiete makes a good point, if only one.” He said, giving a sidelong glare at the man with yet another drink in hand, “…It is obvious she has left an incredible amount of influence on you. Do you really think that is natural?” he emphasized, not caring if the others insulted him for his sense of always looking for the worst in a bad situation, “A single encounter and you were ready to run off shirtless and bloody through the kingdom and beyond shouting her name. I am concerned, even if you claim she meant you no harm…”

Endymion exhaled heavily and shut his eyes for a moment, simply absorbing the circus act, that was Jadiete, at the moment. It was all true. Yes, he had chased her from the start. Yes, many women use their beauty to manipulate. Yes, Kunzite would (and had) said that. Collecting his thoughts before daring to speak again, he leaned his head back, hands knitted together at the back of his head as he paced once again in an awkward circle.
“…So what if I chased her?” He muttered bluntly, pausing to shoot a harsh glare in the dramatic blonde’s direction, “She isn’t what you all assume her to be. She wasn’t trying to tarnish my reputation or any such nonsense. Lake Kosuke isn’t generally a dangerous place to wander.” The prince ‘hmphed’ gruffly, not removing his hands from the back of his head just yet, as he continued to burn off his discomfort by padding about the room. Dropping his arms back down to his side, Endymion halted his movements to regard Jadiete again, the subtle defensiveness in his own voice surprising him, “It wasn’t my hat to discard. That is all. I wasn’t clinging to it…” Yes he had been clinging to it. Or wasn’t he? He wasn’t even sure anymore. The whole experience began to grow foggy in the back of his consciousness, like when one wakes from a dream, unable to discern where the dream ends and reality begins. Something told him it was real, the entire debacle and the pink hat upon his dresser was strong evidence to confirm it; but his own mind threatened to betray him at this junction. The calmness in Zoisite’s voice was a much needed break from the antics of Jadiete and Nephrite. They were both taking entirely too much pleasure in his anguish. Meeting his gaze, he frowned, the emotion creasing a strong line across his forehead as he opted to choose his words carefully. Breathing in very slowly and then breathing out just as slowly, the rising and setting of his broad chest helped to calm him. Helped him to collect his thoughts.
“Yes... I suppose I am, Zoisite. I honestly don’t know. A couple of hours?” He muttered under his breath, surprised how much things could change in a couple of hours. That in just a short encounter Serenity had changed his thinking on almost everything. Did she even know? That she restored his faith in people? That at least one person in this universe would see him for something other than a Prince, that she saw him as Endymion the person. A faint smile crossed his lips before disappearing as quickly as it appeared as he addressed the Generals again.
He paused to clear his throat emphatically before he began speaking, “I know you all have theories, questions and… a great many comments…” Brushing his hand up through his jet black hair as he tried to formulate the words, his voice growing impassioned as he continued on, “But Serenity saved my life today. Plain and simple. Whether you choose to question her motives and intentions, one fact remains. She could have hidden her powers and survived, leaving me to be mauled by a bear, and you four would be having a very different evening planning my services…” Endymion groaned as Zoisite’s pointed out the obvious. He was all too aware how on display he was. The prince dropped roughly into the plush chair beside the rather popular drink table, allowing his forehead to rest against the sweaty palms of his hands. Why was he sweating again? He felt anxious and crazed all over again. His eyes traced the grain of the marble floors beneath his feet, as though the maze they created were the most interesting thing in the room.
Sighing heavily, he didn’t bother to look up as he answered Zoisite’s question with a touch of sarcasm. Informal? Was that so inconceivable? “I know how dreadfully scandalous my using her first name must seem to you, but I don’t know the rest of her name. I only know that her name is Serenity.” His tone must have sounded so defeated at this point. This was certainly the most unusual circumstance he had found himself in after sneaking away. Generally it was a slap on the wrist and Kunzite’s firm ‘Don’t do this again…’ speech. Shockingly, Jadiete had a valid question. One he wouldn’t answer. He couldn’t handle the onslaught from them any longer. How intrigued? Overwhelmingly so. Would he travel the universe to find her again? There was no question. He would find her again. Brave, proud, serious. Those were the most popular ways to describe the Prince of Earth. They’d have to add determined to the list. He’d find Serenity again. He’d promised her that much.
He shrugged unenthused, “She’s from the Moon. I’m no fool, Jadiete. I’m aware that we shouldn’t even have met in the first place.” There. Perhaps that would be enough to satiate them. Maybe they’d even believe him. That he wouldn’t spend every spare moment trying to figure exactly how to find her again. The final straw seemed to be Kunzite’s unexpected interest and in that moment something deep in him broke. The serious Prince couldn’t hold it in another moment. Thrusting himself rapidly from the chair, his dark blue eyes were suddenly ablaze with a frenzied passion, “Because she was abducted, dammit! Would none of you grow concerned if a young unconscious woman was taken away suddenly? The fact that I spent my afternoon with her is irrelevant!!” Stalking off towards the window, his right arm came to rest against the dark wood frame, taking on the brunt of his weight as he leaned there. Was he going insane? Or was everyone around him insane?
Frowning deeply, he muttered in a frustrated fashion, “I was shirtless because I was trying to stop the bleeding of a mortally wounded man… is that really so impossible to understand?” Endymion could appreciate the ridiculousness of the entire situation, but the Generals couldn’t get the idea that perhaps he was telling the full truth out of their minds. He had no other tale for them. They’d have to accept that he was sane or sentence him ill.
Staring out the window, he caught a glimpse of Lake Kosuke and took a deep, steady breath allowing a sense of calmness to wash over him. Like a wind rustling the branches in fall, he began to recall Serenity’s whispered admission of truth, ‘I do see the real you, and I so desperately want to learn more about you and your unshakeable will.’ Thinking of the way she’d breathed against his neck, he could almost feel the lingering sensation of her in his arms. She was truly the first person who’d seen him as Endymion, who hadn’t been swept away by his crown or power. Blunt and beautiful, he was certain to be haunted by the memory of her until he found her again. Assured himself that his savior was well. Wordlessly he swore to himself that he would find her again, somehow, someway.

With a quiet sigh and a rub of the forehead, Kunzite regretted pushing the Prince too far too fast. It was obvious to them all that this…experience had influenced Endymion deeply, yet they called together a conference to discuss it immediately in more concern for what it had done to the Prince rather than what it was doing. It didn’t help that his fellow generals teased him mercilessly, but Kunzite reflected the fault lie more with his turning this woman into a villain than their childish needling of a potentially romantic infatuation. He exchanged quiet glances with his fellows and nodded to himself. Perhaps Kunzite was simply beyond his skill in this part of his Prince’s life.
“My apologies, Endymion-sama.” Kunzite began very formally, only a hint of his regret making it through his typical veneer, “I suppose any one of us could have reacted the same to seeing someone helplessly taken before our very eyes. I will investigate this matter and report to you once I have something.”
He stood up and began his way toward the door. Maybe it would be cathartic for them to demonize him and his “conspiracy theories” once he was left. If that helped the Prince recover, then he welcomed it.

Jadiete’s eyes widened at Endymion’s sudden outburst. Their Prince was always so calculated. It was the part of Endymion that always reminded Jadiete of Kunzite. There was so much unsaid, trapped just below the surface, safe in Endymion’s mind. But in this moment, one of the first moments Jadiete could really call, the Prince’s raw feelings and emotions were pouring out freely to the group.
Jadiete set his drink along the table, running a hand through his course hair. “Endymion… I… we… never meant to upset you so.” He apologized, backpedaling in his words.
“I can understand your concern for this person’s well-being. Especially when she overstepped boundaries that you are very aware of. My limited understanding of the Moon Kingdom is that they are traditionalists and follow rules in an unflinchingly rigid manner.” He added, bringing a hand under his chin. He wasn’t great with apologies, and was slightly caught off-guard by the Prince’s emotions. He shrugged his shoulders in silence.
Zoisite’s gaze softened with a slight chuckle. “Did you really think we didn’t believe what you were telling us, Endymion?” Zoisite mused with a chuckle of disbelief. Raising his shoulders, he sat forward, shaking his head. “You are our Prince. Beyond that, you are our friend. You represent honesty, transparency, and the ultimate truth. You’ve never tried to deceive us in any serious matter.” He offered.
“What we all see in this moment is a new side to you Endymion. It’s not a bad side or a bad thing—you just seem changed. Still honest and truthful as ever — but there’s some weight on your shoulders. And perhaps, your eyes have been opened to a new part of the greater world… we have to decide whether that’s something you need – whether it’s something this Kingdom should even be thinking about.” He posed.
“New people can bring out the best in us. Take Jadiete for example,” Zoisite mused.
“An overly confident, joking bastard of sorts.” He grinned. “He’d be so boring without us.” He smiled. “We needed to make sure that whomever you decide to spend your time with, will bring out the best in you, not try to tarnish all the things we and your people admire and respect you for.” Zoisite tapped his fingers to his chin carefully.
“Maybe this is something to forget and move forward from. I’m sure the girl is fine. She’s home now, even you believe it was just another person from the Moon who took her.” He reasoned. “And you won the spar! You beat Kunzite and put him in his place. We haven’t even had a chance to celebrate your victory.” He added, trying to push the Prince on to other topics.
Jadiete’s ears perked up with Kunzite’s words. “Wait, Kunzite.” He said sharply. Internally, his mind processed his mentor’s words. An investigation. He said he would investigate. Kunzite was not one to go on a fool’s errand. Did he have a means to gather information about the moon? Was this one of the man’s many carefully kept secrets? Of course it was. Of course Kunzite had the means.
He was always fascinated by the Moon Kingdom and its pretentious stronghold of an alliance, but now he questioned just how deep the fascination ran. What types of information did Kunzite have and what Earth resources were being taken to obtain such information. Why did Kunzite choose to shut off his brothers in these situations. Did he not trust them? This was not the time to question their leader. But, some things needed to be addressed. He had shown his hand. They all deserved answers, especially Endymion.
“How exactly do you plan on getting answers?” Jadiete said, after a moment’s silence. “You can’t give Endymion a glimpse of hope and connection to the Moon Kingdom.” He said simply. It took nothing more than a passing glance to see the Prince whose emotions lay bare for the group to see. He was desperate and hurting. He wanted answers and some form of closure. Kunzite had just given the man hope. Jadiete wanted to ensure it wasn’t false hope. If it were, Endymion might not recover from the tease of information.

Jadiete’s words stopped Kunzite cold in his tracks, his hand still outstretched toward the knob of the door. In his haste to calm his Prince and deal with the scenario, he had misspoken in a grievous manner. What he knew in this regard was the strictest of secret information… the more people that knew it, the more precarious it became.
“I…have my sources.” Kunzite stated. He did not want to say anything more. But he could feel Jadeite’s eyes boring into the back of his skull. Everyone’s eyes, in fact. Endymion’s eyes. To withhold everything now would possibly create an irreconcilable rift between him and the Prince. Trust was the hardest won and the most valuable resource a man could have. Kunzite had fought hard to gain it on his way to the Palace. Within the Palace. And beyond the Palace. But he could never trade Endymion’s trust for all the information in the world.
He turned around slowly, gazing levelly at all the other men in the room, gauging their interest and having one last bout of doubt that he should share what they expected him to in that moment. He locked Endymion's gaze for several seconds. One could hear a pin drop in the expectant silence. Kunzite walked over to the tray of drinks on the table, poured himself a rather large glass and took a slow, long draft. He was enforcing his resolve as he planned on how to speak. He decided to start only the fundamental pertinent point.
“I am involved with a man who does regular trade with the Moon from Earth. He acts as a courier and he also provides me with information that he is able to obtain from his dealings with Moon citizens. If anyone on the planet can get me information on a missing Moon resident, it is him.”
Though he possessed more knowledge than that, he desperately hoped this would be enough to satiate the interest of the men seated before him. Anything more, and Kunzite had a sinking feeling that his Prince would never give up on the ghost of his mysterious lady…

A peculiar sense of guilt rose up within him. It wasn’t often he lost his temper, especially with those he was closest with. Endymion loathed the sinking sensation that came over him at Jadiete’s raw, yet genuine apology. He offered a slight nod, accepting the man's words. His gaze remained fixed upon the scenic horizon, he borrowed its calm facade, allowing it to seep into his spirit. However, Jadiete was correct in one regard. Why had someone from the Moon Kingdom been here in the first place? They were usually so distant and painfully mysterious.
“Fear not. All is well, Jadiete-kun…“ He uttered with a slight wave of his hand.
Well that was rather cryptic. The Prince frowned deeply, for such a line from his highest General seemed quite peculiar. Had sources? For what exactly? Wordlessly he pushed himself off of the doorframe he turned to face the other men in the room. Arms folded neatly against his chest, Endymion’s eyebrows raised as the turn of the conversation had piqued his interest.
For a moment he felt his heart race without permission again; for there may be a solution to this dilemma, to find her again. It was strange, the involuntary emotional reaction to just an errant thought of her. Perhaps his Generals were correct in their fears, how exactly had he become so attached to her in such a short time? The answer was simple enough.
No one had ever looked at him and seen just Endymion. Not even his four Generals, whom were his closest comrades. Truly, no one except Serenity.
Endymion’s focused gaze remained fixed upon Kunzite, watching him carefully to take note of any discrepancy of his behavior. It seemed his own unraveling had also caused a chink in the silver haired man’s armor. For just now he’d let just a little too much be known; this was a rather unusual occurrence. He saw reluctance glimmer in Kunzite’s gaze as their eyes met and he felt a wave of sympathy pang at his heart. The secrets that Kunzite kept remained confidential for good reasons. In their time together, he had come to trust the man's code of honor and ethics. He had yet to betray his trust in anyway Continuing to watch as the man distracted himself by going to pour himself a drink, he realized the others would press for more answers unless he intervened. Intervene he would. Zoisite’s words were like the sun breaking through rainclouds. He'd given him everything he needed to fix everything in this moment. Inhaling deeply, he cleared his throat as he felt his usual confidence begin to course through his veins once again. Upon garnering their attention, he stepped further into the circle, beginning to feel like himself again. Turning to Zoisite, he stooped, tightly gripping the man's shoulder as their gazes met for a moment. “Zoisite, you’re brilliant…”
Releasing his shoulder, Endymion straightened his posture and pointed at Kunzite as a wry smirk found its way to his lips. “He’s right. I won. You promised me before the match I could choose anything for our next… adventure, if you will.” Lowering his arm as he slowly approached Kunzite, his expression brightening. “Use those connections… and find out how we can get to the Moon, because that is what I choose.” They would meet her. They would meet his Serenity, affirm that she was real.
But most importantly. He would see her again. He would fulfill his promise.

As Endymion's quick turnaround in confidence, Zoisite chuckled ruefully. "Of course I'm brilliant." He said simply, somewhat confused by Endymion's random comment.
And then it all became clear. Zoisite had given Endymion the exact loophole that was needed to embark on some crazy adventure to find a needle in a very foreign and dangerous haystack. "You must be joking." Zoisite said, shifting his weight uncomfortably. But it took little to no examination of Endymion to know he was quite serious.
This was their Prince—confident, composed, and sure-handed with his commands. In these last moments, it was as if a missing piece or short circuited part of Endymion had been replaced. Now, he was fully functional. He was empowered.
Zoisite's gaze fell upon Kunzite with great unease. Regardless of whatever individual or network their fellow General had, this was still an extremely complicated ask. None of them were familiar with the space. However, if this was some opportunity to put their skills as warriors of strength and stealth on display, then so be it.
Did Kunzite think that all his Generals were plotting against him? He'd have to wonder. Between Jadiete's recommendations of giving the Prince more space and their new pact to allow Endymion the freedom of choice backfiring in epic fashion — the calm-headed leader might think these blowups were to perfectly placed. Zoisite's shoulders curved as he sat back on the couch.
"This is insane." He said flatly, shaking his head. "But, I assume there's not changing your mind, Endymion?" He questioned. "Out of all the things you could do with choice..." He sighed, bending at the knees to push himself back into a standing position.
"Insane seems to be the new normal with this bunch." He rose a brow, grinning slightly. "I guess we await your findings and next orders then?" He questioned, crossing his arms.

Post by General Kunzite on Nov 25, 2014 10:42:01 GMT -5
If Kunzite had not had so many years of intense disciplinary training and a history of keeping a calm appearance, he may have balked and sputtered at Endymion’s request. Thankfully, at least he had Zoisite to speak the words he couldn't. He felt as though the first raindrops of the perfect storm had begun to fall. Go to the Moon? Five of the Earth’s Kingdoms high leadership on the Moon. The hundreds of things that could go wrong flooded his mind. And yet, Endymion was within his rights. Kunzite had offered him a fair prize of victory and he had won it in a fair contest of martial skill. To deny the Prince patronizing at best and treasonous at worst. Honor forbade him to complain or back down from the lofty challenge.
Kunzite’s face became stony. He took another swig of his drink in silence and replaced it on the table before bowing to Endymion, “My Prince.” It was all the confirmation he could allow himself as his mind tried desperately to put together a plan and ways to counter all the things that could go wrong.
He swept his gaze over his generals. He saw their concern and curiosity, though he felt an unexpected flush of thankfulness that he had these men to rely on. He would need them. He would need to learn to rely on them better, “If I could ask you all to meet me back here in three hours. I should have all the information I need to provide a plan of action.” He could barely believe he was speaking this words…but there they were, and now he had to go trade in years’ worth of favors to accomplish the Prince’s wild hunt for a girl he should never have met.
Kunzite moved quickly, sending out a message via hawk and saddling a horse he was off within the hour. A quick ride off lay a secluded inn. By all rights, the location should have provided few customers, but the place was relatively packed. Kunzite knew, of course, that the reason was that it provided one of the many stops along the Moon Kingdom’s secret trading route. Earth workers who knowingly or unknowingly participated gathered here as they crossed paths to and from the central hub that Kunzite had been loath to reveal. He took a seat with a nod to the innkeeper and got himself another strong drink. At this rate, he worried he would turn into Jadeite, but he needed an extra shot of fortitude for what was coming next. At length, a new man entered the tavern and caught Kunzite’s gaze. He took a seat and the proffered glass that Kunzite extended to him. He was of stout bulk and bright red hair that he wore proudly – complete with full beard and a ponytail extending over the collar of his jacket. He addressed Kunzite casually, as though he also felt equal to the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard.
“Kunzite. This is an unusual time to be requesting my services. I am quite busy, since the Moon has been preparing for one hell of a party. Your message seemed to indicate this was of great importance, so let’s get down to business. What is it I can do for you?”
“Captain Andrew. How long have we known each other?” Kunzite started carefully as he prepared his request.
“It must be…seven years, I’d say...” Andrew replied with a quirk of his head. He wasn’t sure what to make of Kunzite’s odd statement. The man usually just said what he had to and went on his way.
“Then I must ask you; what is seven years’ worth of trust worth to you? I have never lied to you, nor deceived you, nor taken advantage of your position with the great service you have rendered Earth. You have served me and the Earth Kingdom well. What I need to ask is beyond simple comprehension, but I simply will not take no for an answer. Deny me in this, and you threaten the future of Earth’s welfare.”
“General Kunzite…..” Andrew began cautiously, “I must ask you get to the point. You are beginning to worry me.”
Kunzite put his drink down heavily and gazed at his companion piercingly, “I need you to smuggle four generals and a Prince onto the Moon and then also be ready to bring us back when we need.”
Andrew nearly spit out his drink, but contained himself enough to merely swallow wrong and start coughing. “You want WHAT?!”
“Keep your voice down, sir.” Kunzite replied, feeling the same way, “You mentioned a party. Large, with many people around?”
“Y-yes…….but..”
“That will do nicely. Four generals and a Prince will be attending that ball, and you are going to be our valet. When is it?”
“Tomorrow, Kunzite. But, by everything good and decent…do you even know what you’re asking? The Queen could very well order us all dead if she found out. And I know your prowess as a fighter...but you would never get out of there.”
Kunzite nodded impatiently, “I know Andrew. I know very well, but this is out of my hands, and now it is out of yours. All I can promise you is that this is for the good of the future of the Earth Kingdom.” At least, the best case scenario was, Kunzite mused. An Endymion locked to the specter of a moon girl would never be able to come into his inheritance well.
After his meeting with Captain Andrew the Moon Trader, Kunzite returned to the Palace. He was trying to focus on the accomplishment of Endymion’s wish above everything else. In this regard, his Prince was taking leadership. He was asking grand things. He was not allowing danger or fear to dissuade him. His motivation however, in Kunzite’s mind, was still very weak. All this for a woman? But…if Endymion was able to provide a proper goodbye, maybe the spell would break and they could get back on with their lives. They said some had to leave home to grow up; maybe leaving the Earth would remind him how precious it was.
Kunzite gathered with the other generals and his Prince again in that fateful room to report his accomplishments, “I have arranged what we need as far as transportation. Lucky for us, there is a large ball happening tomorrow to honor some new arrivals to the royal household. Everyone worth mentioning will be there, so we will be able to blend in with the crowd well…and surely Endymion’s woman will be in attendance somewhere. We leave at sundown.”
If she is not in prison or executed, Kunzite reflected bleakly.

Nephrite rolled his eyes at the commotion taking place. Their prince cracked under the jokes, it was rare that they even teased him so, but it was so rare that he found himself in strange predicaments, he and Jadiete could hardly resist themselves. Knowing Kunzite would reprimand him later, he frowned, “Endymion, we meant nothing by it…” The man remained at the window unmoved until Jadiete and Kunzite began speaking about ‘moon connections’. Giving his full attention to their leader, he scratched at chin, intrigued by the notion. He was so incredibly secretive; whatever circumstance managed to transpire, Kunzite always had a simple answer. It was his nature. It’s why he was in charge.
As quickly as the moment had soured, it turned back around; Endymion suddenly alive again, the brightness once again in his blue eyes. Nephrite was overly amused at him calling Zoisite out as ‘brilliant’. The mahogany haired man cackled in boisterous laughter, before relaxing back into the chair. “Don’t give him any ideas….” He said, giving Zoisite a sidelong glance as he sipped at his beverage. Suddenly the conversation shifted quite drastically.
He looked front Jadiete to Kunzite to Endymion, attempting to follow the conversation, the grin falling from his face. Kunzite couldn’t possibly be willing to go along with this. Go to the Moon? He was all for adventure and new experiences, but this seemed… crazy.
Raising his hand in the air, as though it were necessary for him to speak, “Eh… is this really a good idea? Perhaps we await the young lady to return to Earth? Whether Kunzite has connections or not, is it really wise for us to hypothetically… traipse about the Moon?”
---
The verdict came simply with the High General’s return to the common room. Nephrite now stood back pressed against a nearby wall, arms folded across his chest. He would always support Endymion, even at the cost of his life; yet, this seemed rash. Even for them. The Prince of Earth and his four Generals. He personally prided himself on being one of the more advantageous of them all, but something about this entire scenario seemed to rile his nerves.
It seemed impossible, but the plan was set in motion. Nephrite blinked back the surprise before glancing towards Jadiete, whispering brashly to the man at his side. “Unreal. Are we really chasing Endymion’s Moon girl… to the Moon? …This can’t possibly end well.”

Jadeite raised a brow at Nephrite’s words. “You know I hate agreeing with you, but I do.” He muttered. He continued the conversation in a hushed whisper.
“Is our Prince forsaking us? Does he really understand the gravity and dangers of a trip like this?” He questioned. Internally, he knew Endymion was being selfish. But, the Prince had so few opportunities for himself, perhaps he deserved such a moment, regardless of what it meant for his Generals.
Great. A ball. Now they would be putting up with crowds of people, bad music—and the worst of it—dancing.
“Wait. I have some questions, comments, concerns… Slow down, Kunzite.” Jadiete hissed, tapping his head with his hand in some level of annoyance. “I’m sure you’re thinking through all these items, but I’d appreciate you filling us in.”
He took in a deep breath, raising his tone to be better heard among the group. “What are we to communicate to others when they see their Prince and Generals leaving the Palace unexpectedly? Where are we meeting to leave? What should we do if things come apart while on the Moon?” He questioned, folding his arms. “I mean…how do we even know we’ll blend in?” He scoffed, gaze falling back to Nephrite.
“I don’t know what to wear and HE doesn’t even know what to wear.” He mused, motioning to Nephrite who actually cared about his attire and fashion sense.

Kunzite wasn’t really in the mood to parse out this whole ridiculous plan, but it seemed like everyone was just as antsy as he was about it. He sighed deeply and took a seat, looking them all over carefully. He was too tired to keep up the walls of his pride right now.
“Gentlemen; much of this we’re just going to have to play by ear. We can easily spin our departure as a nocturnal hunting party. We must leave together from here to visit an inn some miles out. From there a coach to the ship that will be our ticket to the Moon. However, my contact is a simple trader. He gets news, but he is not involved with the high culture of the Moon…even if almost all of it is high culture. He will have five formal suits brought to us at the docks, but I make no guarantees of fit or style,” he added, with a shrug toward Nephrite.
“Then he will wait for us in the docks until we are ready to leave – peacefully or by compulsion. This party we are attending is for the Princess’ new honor guard. Four women from the other planets. Those women – the Queen, the Princess, those soldiers – wield most of the power it seems, so don’t let your guard down just because you see a pretty face; it could be that the nobles in authority are mostly women too. Our best defense will be confidence. I suspect we will be ignored if we look like we are celebrating. I can only pray there will be enough entertainment to distract anyone from five extra men. What else can I tell you…we are in for an adventure.”

Flabbergasted. In a word, Zoisite sat back, listening to their great leader in disbelief. “Play it by ear?” He questioned, shaking his head and leaving his mouth open. “We never play things by ear. We’re trained to be prepared, be one step ahead of any situation. You taught us that.” He frowned.
Jadeite cocked his head to the side playfully. He felt they were already condemned. “My head was sticking to Kunzite bringing up prayer, Zoisite.” He mused. “I didn’t think he prayed.” Jadeite mused, placing his head into his hands as he took in a deep breath, listening on.
“Lovely.” Jadeite offered. “It sounds like these women are beautiful and intriguing, just as the Prince mentioned.” He said coyly, picking himself off the comfy confines of the oversized chair. “But suits that we don’t even know whether they’ll fit? Now that won’t do, especially for Nephrite.” He grinned.
“Well, I think I’m going to spend the rest of my evening enjoying my bed chambers. I’m sure the prisons on the Moon are far less spacious, and not quite as accommodating.” Jadeite scoffed, pouring himself another drink as he backed near to the exit, saluting the group as he took his leave: “Here’s to confidence as our best defense.” He chuckled wildly at the madness of it all. “I’ll see you all in the morning. To our Prince and his full embrace of reckless abandon.” He added flatly.
"Reckless abandon indeed." Zoisite sighed. "I'll take my leave as well. "Endymion, I can't wait to meet this girl. I hope you take this determination into growing in your role as King, you'll be unstoppable if you do." He nodded politely, before slipping away from the group.

A deep frown was drawn across Nephrite’s expression, at the idea of not being able to choose his own formal wear. He allowed this to be the biggest problem on his mind at the moment, since apparently had no say on the journey to the Moon. He wasn’t one to mind dancing with a pretty girl; perhaps all the women on the Moon were as mysterious and interesting as Endymion’s Moon Girl.
“Unfortunately for you Jadiete, you’ll look ridiculous next to the likes of me tomorrow night… the suit won’t make a bit of difference here…” He drawled sarcastically, motioning to Jadiete’s face before allowing his lips to curl into a smirk. Raising the little bit of drink remaining in his glass, he cheered in response to Jadiete. “Indeed, to reckless abandon!” Drinking the last of it, he grinned.
Setting the empty glass down, he shrugged and thrust his hands into his pockets. “Well, tomorrow should be quite interesting… See you in the morning…” Nephrite turned and headed out towards his bed chamber.
---- The chatter of the men in the room voiced a wild maelstrom of conversation. The opinions varying from mild disbelief to wild apprehension. Endymion felt a surge of victory course through his veins, a strange thrill that combined with the waves of emotions he had been riding today. He did his best to keep his expression focused and unchanged, opting to not react strongly to their comments. His gaze fell upon each man as they spoke, allowing them to have their moment.
The hint of a smile touched his lips as he finally coughed to gain the attention of the men. He looked to inspire them, or at the very least, quell their nervousness. “You men are the Four Generals of Earth and closest friends to the Crown Prince. If anyone deserves and can handle such an adventure, I believe it is us.”
As Zoisite and Jadiete made their intentions to retire known, Endymion nodded in agreement. “Indeed, rest up my friends. I shall see you in the morning. Goodnight.” With that, he briskly exited the room, no apprehension, no doubt to be found in his mannerisms; likely to the chagrin of the Generals. He knew they were quite uneasy. But he felt confident that everything would go well tomorrow. He would do his best to ensure that everything went well. Endymion felt uncomfortable knowing that Kunzite had to put himself on the line for this, he would do his best to make sure this was a one-time favor.
Reaching his bedchambers felt like a welcomed escape from the madness that today had wrought. Endymion leaned against the heavy door, listening to the thud of it close, isolating him from the world for a bit. He couldn’t quite define the emotions he was feeling. Some strange mix of hope, victory, apprehension and desperation. The victory of roping the Generals into a trip to the Moon was glorious and unexpected. Although he played the hand he was dealt, he was taken aback by their willingness, mostly Kunzite’s willingness. He hoped his confidence in the upcoming day’s events was not misplaced, that it would truly go well.
Would Serenity wish to see him again? He moved towards his balcony doors, flinging them open, allowing the chill of the night settle upon him as he cast the gaze of his dark blue eyes towards the Moon above. The desperation he felt was the most disconcerting emotion of the day; he wasn’t used to being desperate for anything. But as he closed his eyes, he could feel the jarring splash of water strike him again and the captivating twinkling of her sapphire eyes, the way her beautiful face lit up when he splashed her back. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he glanced back up at the Moon once more, before retreating back inside.
More than anything, he longed to see her smile again.

Kunzite allowed his generals to air their complaints and their sarcasm without comment. Indeed, he could barely wrap his mind around the plan that he himself had put forward. He felt very responsible for the entire mess they were watching spill out in slow motion. Leaving his Prince to wander around with a random stranger. Pushing him too hard on his little adventure. Promising him the Moon—literally. Tipping his hand on his knowledge of Moon traders. They were walking into the den of vipers to find the golden egg and they had only him to blame.
Kunzite may have preferred to be facing an army than the apprehension he was experiencing. Between a rock and a hard place. In any other frame of mind, he would have utterly refused Endymion this wild hunt. But they were at a crossroads with the young prince, and Kunzite felt they had to give Endymion his right to act in his own interest. How could a King inspire his people if he refused himself every inspiration? And how could raise a strong King without allowing him a strong will?
He met the eyes of each man as they took their leave, nodding his head in simple farewell until the room was emptied. Kunzite hadn’t moved from the place he had seated himself on the couch. At last he stood and scooped up the glass that had contained his drink several hours before. He refilled two fingers with and went to the very window Endymion had been while they interrogated him. Kunzite had felt in control then, bringing heel to an unhinged Prince. With an ironic smile, he realized that he had been brought to heel at the wishes of the Prince. Kunzite gazed at the moon, high in the night sky. He had never enjoyed that sight since he first learned about the Moon’s secret exploitation of Earth. It appeared to him simply a massive watchtower; reminding the Earth that it was not its own, but theirs to be guided and ruled from afar. And now one of them ruled the mind of his future King.
Kunzite’s nerves were strained farther than he could ever recall them being. He raised his glass toward the Moon as if to say, “Well played” and downed the contents again before placing the glass roughly on the closest flat surface. The Moon had him at check, but as he strode out of the room, he vowed that the checkmate would ultimately be his, for Crown and Country.
