After her initial accident, practice went much more smoothly for Rei. She knew her hand maidens would be by soon to help prepare her for the ball, so the Princess of Mars stood next to her basin dipping one end of a towel into the cool waters and wiping it along her bare skin. Her practice had caused her to work up quite a sweat and she wanted to be fresh for the evening. Just as she was finishing there was a gentle knock on her door. Quickly, she draped the towel across the bowl and slipped her silken robe over her shoulders.
"Come in," she said, turning her back to the door and tying the sash around her waist.
"Good evening Princess Rei," two familiar voices said in unison.
Rei spun around in shock, her eyes welling with tears of joy at the sight of her beloved guardians.
"Phobos! Deimos!" she cried out as she practically leaped across the room and embraced the raven haired twins. The two returned the hug with equal warmth, each running a hand through Rei's thick black hair.
"Oh Princess, we've missed you terribly!"
"We weren't certain we would be able to make the journey..."
"...but we've prepared you for every major event in your life..."
"...so we pulled some last minute strings..."
"...so we could to be here to prepare you for this one."
"Did you get the package from the King and Queen?"
Rei nodded, stepping back from the embrace.
"Yes I did. When you see them, tell them I said thank you. How long are you here?"
"Just for tonight," the said in unison, both frowning.
"We'll have to get back to finish aiding in preparations for the Festival of the Fire Spirit," said Deimos, pulling out the chair at Rei's vanity and motioning for the princess to sit.
Rei took the offered seat as Phobos placed a box filled with pins, combs and trinkets to decorate her hair. Deimos picked up her brush and began running it through Princess Rei's silken locks.
"I had some ideas on how to decorate your hair. How extravagant did you want it to look?" Phobos asked, rummaging through the shimmering trinkets.
"Nothing too extravagant, I'm performing the Sacred Fire Dance and I don't want to risk melting anything to my head."
Both Phobos and Deimos stopped mid motion and turned their gaze to their beloved princess.
"Princess, that dance is very dangerous."
"I know, Phobos, but I've been practicing and I'm confident I will perform it flawlessly," Rei said, leaving out the part about burning her skirt.
"Of course you will" said Deimos as she resumed brushing Rei's hair. "Your skill with fire is renowned. We are looking forward to watching your performance."
"But that pretty much rules out almost all of my ideas for your hair," Phobos lamented. "But I have an idea that should work nicely."
Phobos pulled out a set of fine gold combs embellished with red and orange gemstones. She passed one to Deimos and the two of them set about pulling her hair up at the temples and intricately weaving her locks through the teeth of the combs. When they were finished, it looked as though she had shimmering flames sprouting out on either side of her head, while the remainder of her hair hung down her back like a silken onyx curtain. Rei turned her head from side to side, admiring the sparkling combs and the intricate pattern woven into her hair.
"It's beautiful! Thank you so much!" she said, smiling up at her beloved guardians.
Minako's voice seeped through the closed door, alerting the three women inside. Rei stood and smoothed out her robe.
"Thank you both for your help. I'm so happy you were here with me tonight."
"One more thing, Princess," Deimos said pulling out a small glass bottle and handing it to Rei.
"A gift from the High Priestess. It's your favorite perfume," Phobos said with a smile.
Rei gingerly cupped the glass bottle in her hands and smiled at her guardians.
"Thank her for me."
The Princess of Mars set the bottle down on her vanity and hugged her guardians again.
"Good luck tonight, dearest Princess Rei," they said in unison.
"Thank you both. I will make you and all of Mars proud."
Rei exited her room, a warm smile on her ruby lips, followed closely by Phobos and Deimos. The raven haired twins bowed to the princesses seated in the common room and addressed them in unison.
"Good evening Princesses of the Inner Kingdoms. It is a pleasure to see all of you again. We wish you luck this evening."
They bowed a second time, then turned and exited the room. Rei took a seat on one of the cushioned couches, adjusting her robe to cover her bare knee. Everyone looked so beautiful this evening. A tingle of excitement welled within her.
"What was it you wanted to speak to us about?"
Rei nodded.
"Agreed. If we are going to be presented as one, then we truly need to be as one."

Her sore legs had proven to Makoto that she was capable for doing the dance that she was hoping to express herself with. While this excited her, she knew the work was not done yet. Before returning to her room, she asked for one of the seamstresses.
“Sorry to bother you like this,” she began, knowing everyone was under pressure to complete preparations for tonight, “but I need your help to recreate a particular gown for my presentation tonight.”
The seamstress tilted her head in confusion, “Recreate, Princess?”
“Yeah,” she said, “I need something different for what I’ll be doing. Everything depends on my dress being able to reflect light, so I need to sow some jewels into it, but it might be too much for me to finish on my own. Could you help me out?”
Of course, the seamstress would never have denied the Princess, and what she was going for also intrigued her, so she agreed. They chatted as they returned to Makoto’s room and she pulled out a thin but well-layered green dress from her closet.
“We can use this as the base, and I have some jewels over here as well as the thread and needles.”
“You’re…rather well prepared for this for it being last minute, Princess Jupiter.”
Makoto smiled idly, “Well, I do a lot of needlework in my spare time as well, so I happen to have a lot of things already on hand.” She explained the patterns of color and spacing she was looking for and the two women went to work.
Other royal attendants began filtering through. One for makeup, another for hair styling, and soon Mako’s room felt like a workshop. Makoto insisted to keep working on her threading while her hair stylist struggled against her naturally wild locks, but the compromise was oddly effective.
The remaining hours passed as Mako enjoyed chatting with the women working with her. At times she even forgot that they were working on her. She felt more comfortable doing menial labor here than she ever did holding court. The realization brought a sigh to her lips, but the simple repetitive tasks calmed her angst.
At length, Minako’s voice rang through their common room. Makoto bit her lip; she was almost done but not quite yet.
“We can finish this up for you, Princess,” her seamstress companion said with a smile. The others nodded, as hair and makeup had been completed a short while before. Makoto apparently wasn’t the only one enjoying the girlish camaraderie. Makoto nodded her thanks with a smile, “I appreciate it. Be back in a few. Feel free to leave it all and get to your next responsibilities when it’s done. I can’t thank you enough!”
She left the room with an odd mixture of work clothes and elegant style and encountered Ami, Minako, Rei, and two twins who were new to her. She smiled amiably toward them all, though she had a suspicion of what was coming.
Minako confirmed her thinking and Jupiter took a seat, “You got it,” she agreed, donning a serious expression, “This is important, and definitely been wanting to talk it out.”

Everyone wanted to have the conversation. Everyone knew this conversation’s importance. Yet, now that the group had assembled, Minako felt an unbearable spotlight on her own thoughts and opinions of their Princess and charge.
“Listen, I think we can all agree that we love Serenity so much.” She said, readjusting how she sat in the chair to lean forward, her gaze growing more intense as she continued.
“We started off together as children. We all are more than titles. We’re great friends.” She clarified. “But, I think it’s extremely important that we come to terms with our role in Serenity’s life. We are her guardians. We are charged with keeping her safe and supporting her in her journey toward becoming Queen.” She reminded the group.
“How is letting her go to Earth as she wishes, a trip that in and of itself is against the laws of this Kingdom, helping her do any of that?” She crossed her arms. “It’s certainly not safe.” She said pointedly.
Ami’s fingertip seemed to mimic the gears of her mind, moving back and forth about her chin as she processed what was being said. “No one will fault your logic, Minako.” She said after a brief moment of silence. “But, we also need to maintain our connection and friendships, too. We can’t push Serenity away. You saw her light up with a chance at going back there, and I believe we all saw her shut down when you tried to close that door.” She frowned.
“I don’t think there is a right or wrong direction here. Both have obvious things to offer and consequences. I would have to lose Serenity’s respect, however. What kind of a Queen will she be if she stops being herself, if that fire and endless positivity is put out by too many pressures?” She spoke her thoughts aloud.
“Unfortunately,” Ami continued, “even if we were to escort her to Earth, we still could not guarantee her safety. Abilities like we have are completely foreign to people on Earth, which could create far larger rifts that would effect far more than us and Serenity.”

Rei listened, her brow furrowed at the Venetian Princess' words. She knew Minako was correct, but she also knew that Serenity would not respond well to them simply shutting her down and reminding her of the rules. As Ami spoke, the Princess of Mars nodded her head, the Mercurian Princess' words ringing true.
"Ami makes a valid point: we absolutely cannot push Serenity away. She knows the rules, she's been hearing them all her life. It was the sheer weight of them that left her feeling she needed to run off in the first place. Which brings up another important fact. We have no idea how she managed to get down there, meaning if later she feels overwhelmed she may be tempted to flee to Earth again without telling us."
Rei shifted on the couch, leaning forward so her elbows rested on her knee.
"I suppose my point is I don't want Serenity to see us as another set of voices barking rules at her that she needs to escape from. Part of the reason we all love her so much is because she is such a free spirit. I want her to come to us as a means of helping to relieve her of her burdens, not reinforce them. I want her to always trust in us as we trust in her. She has a way to return to Earth and at some point, she'll be tempted to use it again. When that time comes I want her to come to us, that way, if we can't talk her out of it, we can at least go with her and protect her."
The Princess of Mars sat back again, folding her arms over her chest.
"I agree with you about the use of our abilities, Ami. So I think we would have to try and interact with the citizens of Earth as little as possible. Even without our powers, we are all warriors and capable of defending ourselves if we absolutely need to, but we should try to avoid the opportunity for confrontation as much as possible."

“I want her to always trust in us as we trust in her. She has a way to return to Earth and at some point, she'll be tempted to use it again. When that time comes I want her to come to us, that way, if we can't talk her out of it, we can at least go with her and protect her." Said Rei.
Minako’s lips pursed, letting out an uncomfortable sigh. “Can we not talk her out of it?” She questioned. “We have no idea how she’s getting to Earth. Maybe we need to ask her about it. Maybe she’ll tell us?” She questioned, leaning her back against the chair as she lifted her shoulders. “What am I thinking?” She raised a hand, as if waving off her thought.
“She basically challenged us in the laconia. She admitted that she wanted to go back to Earth. She said she would try again. She’s openly restless.” She reconciled.
“I can relate to the sentiment that we want to keep Serenity happy. We want her to flourish and take a path she believes in.” She leaned forward bringing a hand to her chest to emphasize her next words. “I don’t want to shut Serenity out. Never.” She stressed.
“But, what happens if Queen Serenity hears of her daughter sneaking down to Earth, breaking her laws and her direction. You know she wouldn’t stand for this. What does us allowing Serenity to go to Earth do for us as guardians. We protect Serenity, but we answer to the Queen. She’s the one who chose us and tasked us with our role.” She frowned. She felt torn.
“And, who is this man that Serenity interacted with? Would she go to Earth for freedom from her duties and responsibilities. I think before she was going as an act of escapism…but now…I think she’d be seeking this person out. We don’t know who he is or what his end game is.”
She bit the tender flesh of her lip. Was she really on her own in this? She felt like the only person who thought these trips to Earth were far more dangerous than beneficial.

"Well..." Makoto said hesitantly after everyone else had the chance to speak, "I think I've already voiced my opinions...without much refinement." she concluded with a self-depreciating smirk.
"But..." she continued after a moment of internal debate, "I'm taking this thing kind of personally. I couldn't wait to get off Jupiter and come here for the very reason Serenity ran off to Earth. I couldn't take constantly being told how to act and how to exist." she added with emphasis, "I hoped to reinvent myself here. Explore a new role without the spotlight always being focused on me..."
She looked at the roof, unable to meet any of their eyes as she poured out her heart, "So...to deny Serenity that chance, to me personally, is hypocrisy. I can't say no to her desire when the same one is burning me alive."
She finally turned her gaze toward Minako, a mix of pleading and sympathy in her eyes, "I hear what you're saying...I really do. I'm the best at putting my foot in my mouth and doing things without planning ahead. Serenity could slip up. This guy could be a jerk. The Queen could find out and have us all deported for treason. Serenity wears a heavy responsibility, but she is so unlike her mother, or my father for that matter. She won't rule the way they do, and she risks so much on trust that I always want to be right there to punch out the people who betrays her pure heart. I would follow her through Hell. At least Earth sounds pretty."
She gave a small laugh to relax the dramatic tone of her words, "What I'm saying is this: If Serenity feels the same way I do, it won't matter if we tell her no or convince her of why she shouldn't. Like Ami and Rei said," she paraphrased, her eyes flickering toward them, "She got there the first time without us. She'll find a way to go without us again. I can wholeheartedly agree it's dangerous and maybe even foolish, but that is exactly why we she needs to know we are willing to be there with her. Perhaps after we experience it with her, we can help plan with her how to minimize these trips. That's the best chance I think we got of balancing our 'duties' and our 'friendship'. If you've got anything better, I'm willing to hear it out. You are the leader of our merry band, and I'll support you as best I can just as I want to support Serenity..."

Rei uncrossed her legs and leaned forward again, clasping her hands together as she rested her elbows on her knees.
"No one disagrees that what we are talking about is both highly treasonous and extremely dangerous. However part of the reason Queen Serenity chose us as guardians is because she knew we would go to any length to protect her daughter, even if we must commit treason to do so. We will always try to talk her out of going, but if we can't then I want to make certain we are there with her to protect her. As for the young man, if she insists on finding him again, we can question him. We don't know how much he knows about her, but if it is determined that he knows too much, we can 'persuade' him to keep his mouth shut."
At the Jovian Princess' words, Rei nodded her head. Minako was in fact their leader and the Princess of Mars didn't want to alienate her any more than she did Princess Serenity. Her voice softened as she spoke.
"While I agree that if there is any other solution you feel we are overlooking please tell us, but the final decision does not rest on your shoulders alone, Minako. We bear this burden and all the consequence it carries equally. So if there is anything anyone would like to add I say speak now. Then, we decide and live with the path fate now takes us."

[OOC-We're moving into start of ball. I'll follow this up with a connecting post from Minako! Thanks for your patience everyone!]
Armed with a long-toothed comb, fingertips grasped up sections of Serenity’s hair, tossing and teasing the long golden tresses into wavy tendrils. Emerald green eyes surveyed the work and pale peach lips curved in admiration of the accomplishment.
Serenity’s eyes closed tightly and her lips scrunched together, her arms wrapped about Luna who laid contently on her lap, squeezing. “You’re ruthless with your styling tonight…Sorry Luna.”
Luna winced, jumping gracefully onto a nearby desk. “Quite alright.” She said, letting out a deep breath. “As you were saying?” Luna urged the conversation forward.
“Oh, yes. So, mother has requested an advisor for Minako to help lead and guide the entire team. He’ll be a bridge between the group and mother. He comes from your home planet, I believe you know him…Artemis?” She questioned.
Luna’s brow rose. Well, she did know of him. Had Luna done something wrong in her duties, especially with recent developments, she felt she had let the Queen down.
“Don’t, old friend.” Serenity shook her head, opening up her arms to invite the cat back into her lap. “You’ve got your hands full with me. And, as my duties continue to increase, mother doesn’t want you to pull yourself in too many directions. But Luna, what is it about Artemis? You seemed—dare I say—emotional at the mention of his name.” Serenity tucked her fingertips beneath the cat’s neck, tenderly petting.
“Hm.” Luna purred. “He’s an overly confident and stubborn too boot cat. That’s all.” She huffed.
“Well, he’ll be at the ball tonight, so perhaps you can put him in his place. You are still my number one companion.” Serenity winked.
Luna nodded. “I best let you continue getting ready, Princess. I’ll be on the lookout for Artemis though. I’ll get him adjusted to the space and find out more about where he’ll be staying prior to the ball.” She said, before padding off on her way. Patting away a few lose strands of hair, a gentle and worn hand lifted near Serenity’s cheek, “You’re just letting it grow longer and longer aren’t you?” The woman mused, her face moved nearer. “And of course you wanted it curly.” Serenity could feel the warm breath brush along the side of her face. The sound of the woman’s high-toned voice grew stronger as she continued. “I never make it easy on you, Marie.” Serenity grinned. Her gaze met that of the other woman’s through the reflection of her mirror. Handmaidens were normally young, single and ambitious women from well-respected families within the kingdom. Yet, the woman who stood closely with the Princess, bending at the waist to be nearer to her work was special. She was married and had a vivacious seven-year-old girl with the same emerald eyes and light brown hair. Serenity had been so found of the woman that she begged her mother to keep her in service for special occasions. “How’s Cossette?” Serenity questioned. “I thought you might bring her with you tonight.” She smiled. “Ah, she’ll be at the ball for a while. Then, her father will take her home by bed time.” Marie said shortly, her hands slid down from Serenity’s scalp and about the sides of her head, smoothing out the upper section of curls before fluffing out the lower layers of her hair with a few short tugs. “I know she’ll want to see you though. It’s been awhile since I’ve brought her to the palace.” She then patted Serenity on the shoulders. “Now now, I need you to get into your dress before I can finish your hair.” She said with a curious smile. “I have a surprise for you.” She squeezed Serenity’s shoulders before giving her a nudge to keep moving.
“Is that tight enough?” The woman questioned, giving one final abrupt tug on the satin laces of Serenity’s corset top dress.
The dress itself was elegant and understated. The corset top had intricate stich work in pale blue and silver thread that was brought together by a few carefully placed silver jewels that wrapped neatly against her lithe frame. Serenity nodded. “Quite tight…yes.” She coughed a few times uncomfortably. Her head turned, looking at the back of the corset, seeing the strips of pale blue and silver that crisscrossed up her back.
“A Princess was never meant to be comfortable.” Marie said sharply, pressing her fingertips into Serenity’s side as she adjusted the corset once more. Serenity was miming the words that she had so often heard across the years.
The front of the corset curved into a gentle point that rested just below her hip line. Long flowing layers of white satin bellowed from underneath her hip line. The gown wasn’t poufy or overbearing. The lower half too clung carefully about her shape. But the material was so light that it tossed and waved with even the slightest motion. It was wild and free, much like her spirit. One layer of the gown swept out far from the others as a long train that would follow and dance with her that evening.
“And you have to take your own breath away to take another’s.” Serenity smirked, raising a hand jokingly.
“Exactly.” Marie said, rolling her eyes. “Now.” She said, ruffling a hand over the thick straps embellished with pale blue and silver jewels that hung loosely just beneath Serenity’s shoulders.
“You are always doting above. We know how much you love the view of the galaxy and the stars, so your mother let me have these custom-made for you. Took quite a few months to complete.” Marie noted, carefully pulling out a silver, star-shaped jewel. “I can twist them about your hair. It’s certainly long enough to house a galaxy of stars in itself, but we’ll keep it simple.” She smiled, beginning to pepper in a select number of the jewels throughout Serenity’s hair.
“Marie. This is so perfect. You know me so well!” She wrapped her arms about he woman tightly, far from a Princessly action. They were quite close though.
Her sapphire eyes looked to the floor-length mirror as she spun about with a bright smile. She felt tall and beautiful. But suddenly the thought of him came creeping back to her.
If he could see her now…She wanted him to look her in the eyes again. He saw through her so easily. Somehow, she felt so exposed, raw, and incomplete ever since her trip to Earth. What an odd feeling to have as an entire Kingdom was looking on. It was as if he were behind her eyes. Somewhere a piece of him remained and would always with her. It was a beautiful and haunting feeling.
“Focus Serenity.” She murmured. Her shoulders rose and she shook her arms, letting out a sharp breath. She tried to shake her nerves.
“Okay.” She swept in a deep breath before continuing: “I want you all to join with me in welcoming my friends and guardians, the princesses from the Inner System planets. This represents a pivotal moment for our Kingdom that has always prided itself on…” Momentarily pausing, she then continued to stalk about the dim lit corner of one of the upper walkways that wrapped above the perimeter of the grand ballroom floor.
For a moment, she looked below. The sweeping ballroom floor led to the orchestra area, which connected with a marble staircase where all her friends would be presenting themselves and their cultures to the Kingdom shortly—and in the back of the area sat two towering thrones. Serenity shrugged at the visual. Why they had to be paraded about, she didn’t understand. She’d much rather stand off to the side and let the girls have their moment.
She brought a hand to her chest, sliding it up near her neck to adjust a the pale blue beaded necklace that rested about it. “… the strength and dignity of its people.” She frowned. “Ugh.” She groaned, pulling herself from the shadows as she tapped her fingertips against her forehead in frustration. “…The strength and dignity of its people?” She questioned. “That’s something mother would say.” She felt so torn. Torn between all the words she felt she had to say. The words her advisors and mothers would feel necessary, and the other, very different words she’d want to say. She hated thinking every moment would be filled with such conflict and contrast. Her ocean blue eyes gazed below once more, stealing some precious moments away from her preparations to announce her new guardians to court. A myriad of colors flowed and bounced about the ballroom floor. How quickly it all came to life. Beautiful gowns and dashing tuxedos could be found in every nook and cranny. Her eyes filled with jealousy for those that moved effortlessly below, free to be faceless. They all wore masks, enjoying an evening to be whomever they please. She turned away from the festivities below. Her back rested against the firm marble railing. Her shoulders raised as her arms bent at the elbows, palms rested along the cool surface. Her neck lifted upward as she looked out into the infinite space. The sky was so beautiful—a canvas filled with infinite stars and other brilliant lights. “Did you hear about the latest envoy from the Earth Kingdom?” A familiar and overly confident voice oozed. She was no longer alone with her thoughts. “They are looking to our Kingdom and others for books, trying to begin some cross-cultural-awareness program.” He chuckled. Serenity had learned that the advisors of the Moon Kingdom always travelled in groups. So, as she turned away from the stars and into view of the mixed group of chuckling men and women she rose a brow. “It seems like a large waste of effort and our time.” He said quietly as he and the others grew quiet, realizing they were in the presence of their Princess. “Good evening, Advisor Jeffers.” She bowed her head respectfully. “I don’t mean to pry on your conversation.” She said kindly, her fingertips daintily tugged at the fluid layers of her gown as she neared the group. “But isn’t it short sided to say that such an initiative, which I’d support is a waste of our time?” She questioned. Bringing a hand up as he tried to make a comment.
“Especially when you think of the trees and gardens here on the Moon.” She offered, tilting her head to the side. “None of those items flourish naturally on this planet, but one of our people was inspired by what occurs so freely and beautifully on Earth. And because of that… cross-cultural education, we all can enjoy a similar beauty from time to time.” She said, before narrowing her gaze. “I’d even say that you enjoy some of the imports we receive from the other planets, like Earth. Especially the metals and other materials used to make the jewelry your wife enjoys so.” She smiled lightly, clasping her hands together at her lower waist. “The Earth has nourished the Moon’s creativity and has always served as a point of inspiration. So, if you or other advisors do not have the time to contribute to this program, please add the item to my agenda and I’ll contribute.”
“Serenity!” A small figure propelled into the layers of her gown, wrapping her small arms about the Princess as she giggled with glee. Serenity nearly doubled over. She sent one final sharp look toward the advisors that told them the conversation would continue later. But as her ocean blue eyes swept down on the little girl with familiar emerald green eyes and bouncy brown curls, her gaze softened.
“Cosette.” She chuckled. “I see you’ve gotten away from your mother. It’s good to see you.” She said, kneeling down, the straps of her dress slid further down her shoulders and she brought her arms around the girl tenderly.
“I wanted to come and see you! You’re necklace is pretty.” Cosette bobbed about, hardly able to contain her exuberant energies.
“Hm. Why don’t you wear it tonight. You can give it back to me later?” She offered, unclasping the necklace and lifting it carefully away from herself and onto Cosette.
“Ugh. It’s so heavy!” Cosette whined.
“Ah, it is!” Serenity laughed, leaning closer to the girl as she whispered. “But you can’t ever let anyone know the burdens you carry. You have to be strong.” She winked.
“You know, I believe people are looking for me. I might be late, and I’m going to tell them it’s your fault.” She poked at the girl playfully before standing tall again and extending her hand, "Let’s find everyone, shall we?” She smiled warmly before moving on to the main floor to reunite Cosette with her mom and get ready for the main presentations to begin.

Minako bit the tender flesh of her lip. As the leader, did the final decision rest on her shoulders. Was this the type of decision to leave up to democracy and equality? She pondered.
For a moment, there was a look of frustration and defeat in her eyes. She placed her head in her hands, before quickly sitting up with a blush. “Ugh. I feel like I can’t even touch myself. I’d hate to mess up all this…work.” She motioned to her hair.
“It’s decided. Obviously.” She said matter-of-factly as she uncrossed her legs and stood.
“You all are clear that you will stretch the limits of the law to allow Serenity the freedom to wander and stay true to her bright spirit. I can’t not support that.” She sighed with a gentle nod.
“I’m hesitant, but just give me time on it. We’re a group and I want us united. As long as you all are passionate and we work together, I’m fine with whatever path we take. We take it as a group, right?” She leaned forward, placing her hand out to the others as a symbol of being united.
“If things escalate or circumstances become more complicated. We just have to promise that we’ll revisit this conversation and readjust our course if such changes are needed.” She added.
“We best get our gowns on and head to the ballroom.” Ami chimed in as the distant bells of the main clock tower coaxed the group forward. Destiny awaited. Far more than anyone was prepared for.
“Maybe we should say a prayer before this all gets started…” Minako said, tilting her head to the side. “Rei? Will you do the honors. Start our evening off right?” She urged.

Post by Prince_Endymion on Jan 14, 2015 17:03:25 GMT -5
Endymion felt a new rush of emotions as the ship shuddered to a halt, telling them that they had arrived. Somehow, someway, destiny had shown on them to get them here with no incident, he took this as a sign, as hope that tonight’s effort was not in vain. Far from that, perhaps even meant to be. The gentleman came aboard and passed out the tuxedos, similar to those he’d worn on so many occasions. These days he was mostly garbed in his Royal Attire at such events, he missed the drama and mystique of hiding amongst all the other men in a tuxedo. A wry smirk curled at the corner of his lips, noting that his had the dramatic addition of a cape. Perhaps a counter measure to make him easier to spot in the sea of dancing couples. Was his height not enough?
Dressing was a fairly short ordeal, mostly lightened by the sarcastic remarks of Jadiete and Nephrite and the quietness of Zoisite and Kunzite. Both were men of few words, and in this contemplative moment they seemed ot temporarily retreat from this moment. Collecting themselves as he was too. After clipping his cape in place, he stooped to reach into the inner pocket of his jacket, sapphire gaze staring at the rosebud, the scent catching the breeze, its fragrance reminding him of that moment with Serenity at Kosuke Lake. Gingerly, he tucked the rose carefully into his inner pocket.
The Prince stood, his gaze shifting to the view outside of the cargo bay. He exited and met up with the man who had spoken to them a few minutes earlier. Endymion extended his hand to the man, “Thank you for your assistance in this matter. We will respect your time restraints, I can assure you.” A polite smile crossed his expression as the man lead them towards the palace and then inside. The servant’s hallways is how he opted to move them through the palace without being noticed. The past few minutes had floated past him so quickly, he barely noticed the way his heart raced as they twisted through the dark hallways, the silence of his Generals halfway jarring.
With a gentle sweep of his hand, the man showed them an exit, and just as quickly disappeared. Endymion meant to thank him, meant to say something, but even apprehension struck him, the small slice of fear of being discovered, of his Generals being in trouble in anyway rising up in him. Swallowing hard, he reached for the door, and pushed it open, the sound of music and the bustling of people almost overwhelming. Quickly ushering them out of the servant hallway, he closed it. A detail caught his eye almost immediately. White masquerade masks. Nearly every man there had them, plus it would certainly help conceal their identities further.
There was a cloak room to the left of them, Endymion’s brow furrowed, as he held a white gloved hand up the generals, instructing them to wait for him. If they truly wanted to follow him, that was fine, but he was a determined Prince, he would find what he was looking for here. He waited until the servant inside the closet dipped out of the room, helping the guests for a moment before he snuck inside. Immediately he began checking pockets for the masks, surely they’d be easy enough to locate. The servant re-entered rather suddenly and jumped at the sight of him. Smiling warmly, he bowed and took her hand, causing the woman’s face to flush, “Miss, I’m terribly sorry that I frightened you. My comrades and I already dropped off our cloaks and have mis-placed our masks…” The young woman smiled, her blush unfading as she fussed around the room for a moment before presenting him with five masks. Breathing a sigh of relief, he thanked her and exited the room. Grinning to the Generals he handed each of them a mask, allowing them to seek the reprieve of cloaking their identity just a bit more while on this adventure.
“Unfortunately I scared the young woman in there, but these should help us blend in more.” He said proudly as he turned to face the grand entrance into the ballroom. They still lingered just outside of the lively ball happening just before them.
The Moon Kingdom Ballroom was vibrant; the grand stark white room dotted by the colorful swirling gowns of the young women and the stark black tuxedos of the men. Smirking slightly to himself as he glanced down, noting that they were dressed to blend in. Placing the eye mask upon his face, he turned to the men behind him, genuine gratitude reflecting in his gaze.
“I know what you must all be thinking right now, and this certainly isn’t my greatest moment as a Prince or a friend. However, please know that I am very grateful for all of you and even more appreciative for your support in coming here. So let’s enjoy the party…” With that Endymion turned and strode into the ballroom, his red-lined satin black cape whipping dramatically behind him as he walked. Suddenly grateful for his height, his wide blue eyes searched the room desperately. Yes, there was that desperation again.
Desperate by definition was ‘reckless or dangerous because of despair or urgency’. He hated to admit it to himself, but he knew deep down that it was true. The generally humble and collected prince was suddenly throwing caution to the wind, all for another moment with her. Her name was on the edge of his tongue as he moved around the edge of the room, glances slipping past the sea of women. None of them were Serenity. A stairwell caught his attention, perhaps he’d be able to find her in the throngs with an overhead view. Rushing up the stairs, he gripped the railing, before hearing a conversation a few feet away, on the other side of a column, with elegant linens obscuring him from sight.
Endymion’s steps slowed at the top couple steps, attempting to listen in. There were some men talking about Earth; a topic as ironic as he could imagine listening in on while on the Moon. He opted to hear them out, as they were currently mocking Lady Beryl’s Cross Cultural Awareness Initiative. Frowning, he felt half compelled to intervene, but understood that it would paint too much of a target on himself, draw unneeded attention. There was only one whose attention he wished to capture.
Suddenly a voice cut through the rest of the music and chatter, like a ghost from a memory. Endymion pressed his back against the column, feeling his breathing slow, as though it lessened his ability to hear her. A child’s voice confirmed what he already knew, a bright greeting, ‘Serenity’ was called out in the child’s sing-song voice. His moment was here, she was here. She was ok. He realized he’d been holding his breath, and that his heart had begun racing without permission. Gaining a sudden rush of confidence, he turned around the column, seeing the upper hallway suddenly devoid of the source of all the voices. Down the other end of the balcony, he saw Serenity’s blonde curls bobbing out of sight, likely returning the child to her parents.
Failure clawed at the edges of his racing emotions as he gripped the balcony’s railing, watching for her to reappear out on the dancefloor. He now knew what she was wearing tonight, at the very least. His dark eyes were wide, desperate and hungry to see her again. For a moment he caught sight of Kunzite, standing like a statue, observing as many guest simultaneously as he could possibly muster. Zoisite and Jadiete seemed to be flitting about the dance floor, what they were looking for, he couldn’t figure out.
Endymion’s gaze shifted about consciously, wondering where she was. He opted to remain up here, surely he’d be able to see her again as soon as she re-emerged on the dancefloor. Even the fleeting glance of her had filled him with that strange nervous energy, one that he couldn’t define with any terms he’d ever used. His lips pursed in mild frustration, “Where did you go, Serenity…?” The hushed whisper of his own voice seemed to calm him, putting it into perspective. At least he knew she was here. At the very least, he knew she was ok from whatever display of power she’d exhibited saving his life.
That was enough to calm him for a moment.

“Endymion!” Zoisite hissed in a hushed voice as their Prince went off on his own mission. As they continued deeper into the palace and throngs of Moon people, Zoisite became more and more uncomfortable. The sinking feeling of being so ill-prepared was clawing at his confidence.
“Is this really necessary?” He groaned, taking the mask—if you could even call it that—from Endymion. It looked like a pale blue set of obnoxious goggles to him. Of course, Endymion took the white pair that seemed the most understated of the group. He opened his mouth to ensure everyone was aligned with Kunzite’s plan and positioning, but before he could, Endymion was off again.
He sighed, placing the mask upon his face, giving one final tug at his ponytail. He sucked in a tall breath and straightened his posture, weaving in and out of the sea of bodies on the dance floor near Jadeite.
Nothing more than two simple gazes passed between the two and they separated. Per Kunzite’s orders, Jadeite and Kunzite would take posts on the main floor. But, the glimpse of red from Endymion’s cape had allowed the General to take position closer to where their Prince currently Zoisite broke off from the dance floor and headed up the main staircase to the second floor.
“Excuse me.” He said politely, bowing his head as a tall woman with blond hair and a young girl glided by quickly.
“Curious.” He said under his breath as he reached his destination.
He leaned casually against one of the columns on the far side. Always close, but giving Endymion his space. He crossed his arms, surveying the space. That woman had a crescent moon symbol on her forehead, but looking at many at this event, none of the others had such a symbol. Could they control such a thing? Or, were only a special few given the mark? Endymion had said the woman wore a hat. The same hat Jadeite had mentioned the Prince clinging to as if it were some priceless object.
Zoisite shrugged. This was Endymion’s mystery to unravel. But the General’s head couldn’t help but spin. There was obvious brilliance in this kingdom. The ship, their ability to manipulate gravity levels—he wished to see more of their advanced technologies. He had to wonder how much of an ally the Moon really was at this point. It seemed as if they kept so much to themselves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jadeite had been called many things that day. Idiot. Doting fool. But look at their Prince—bringing a single flower and falling all over himself with emotion. Jadeite’s fondness of his horse was far more realistic.
At least it resided on the same planet. They had spent many years together. He huffed, slamming the mask over his features briskly. “Good luck.” He said to Endymion with a squeeze to his shoulder before turning abruptly to take his position within the ball room.
Whether any of his comrades would admit it, Jadeite was actually quite clever. He was second in command, and in brief moments of brilliance, even he put Kunzite in his place. After this night, he would certainly take the opportunity.
What was the purpose of this trip exactly? No one brings a flower to a person they want to say goodbye to, unless it’s their funeral. Wouldn’t this whole thing just strengthen Endymion’s feeling and resolve to find new ways to see this woman—if she really existed? Although Jadeite would follow Kunzite to the ends of the Earth, and beyond, obviously, he felt his mentor had made a fatal error tonight. The look in Endymion’s eyes said this was only the beginning. Jadeite feared what came next.
It was loud and overly extravagant. The music was loud. The screeching laughter of all the people didn’t help his growing annoyance with the evening. But, even the General had to admit being taken aback by the towering mastery of architecture and elegance that seemed to ooze from the floors to the banisters to the elegant colored tiling that swooped between the columns and shimmered from the upper levels.
Amazing how two completely separate worlds existed, so far from one another. Without his position, he’d never even know there were people on this planet. The moon was just a nightlight to help his evening hunting efforts. He wondered what common folk thought of this planet.
“Would you care to dance?” A woman asked, tapping him on the shoulder with a confident grin splattered across her face.
Jadeite sighed, shaking off her advances. “Perhaps another time.” He turned, surveying a nearby table, plucking a drink from it. “I have to thoroughly hydrate myself before taking the dance floor.” He said, moving closer to the woman and leaning near her face, letting a breathy whisper tease at her ear. “My dancing’s far too vigorous. I’d hate to take the spotlight from the royal family. Especially during such a special occasion.” He grinned, leaving the woman abruptly, drink in hand.
If he was stuck in this area of the ball room, at least he’d have some fun with people.

Kunzite felt the time for words and encouragements were over. Endymion might say whatever he will, but it was his job to keep them focused and safe. Enjoying the party for him was out of the question, even if he had invited others to do the same. With nothing more than a strained smile, he took the mask from Endymion and donned it. Its silvery hue complimented his hair and eyes and probably made him look much more hawk-like than would be good for blending in.
The thought struck Kunzite as he put on the mask that if the Moon had several people keeping tabs on Earth and its doings, then the Prince and Generals might be recognizable by those in the know by descriptions made to them. The idea made Kunzite bite his lip in worry. He had planned everything else out perfectly as far it could be so. Thankfully they had masks to hide their faces, and hopefully nobody would care enough to consider hairstyles. Just stick to the plan, he reminded himself. He walked out boldly into the wide, energetic room. He wore a stony smile, an obvious attempt to show like he was enjoying himself, but the expression was not ordinary to Kunzite. He quickly took up a glass of campaign from a traveling waiter and leaned against a pillar that was almost dead center against the wall of large windows that lined the ballroom, giving him as wide a range of vision as possible in the midst of the huge party.
He took a sip and calmed himself by going into observational mode. He was much more comfortable as a field commander than spy, and being able to view and evaluate everything from this “perch” gave him something else to focus his energy on than on how closely they skated on the edge of doom. He noted the location of his other generals as they spread throughout the room as well as Prince Endymion, who to his displeasure already looked like a puppy searching for his lost master.
Relax, Endymion, Kunzite thought to himself hypocritically, I didn’t bring most of Earth’s royal household to the Moon just so you could skirt-chase yourself into a cell.
His own critical remarks reminded Kunzite how on edge he was. He sighed heavily, took another sip of his drink, and considered at least how good the rest of the atmosphere was here. The music was pleasant and upbeat. The people seemed pleasant and open with each other in a way he wasn’t used to experiencing on Earth. Certainly it didn’t seem were cold at heart. But their blissfulness could just as easily be built on the ignorant air of superiority, thinking they were the center of the universe. Either way…at least the music was good.

Rei nodded, leaning forward and placing her hand on top of the Venetian Princess' and giving it a gentle squeeze.
"Of course. And as you said, if things change, we will always reopen the topic for discussion."
The chiming of the clock tower alerted them all that their presence would be required shortly. The Princess of Mars heaved a heavy sigh filled with a mixture of anticipation, excitement, and a hint of sadness. Tonight, their lives would be forever changed. No longer would they be just Princesses of the Inner Kingdoms. Tonight they would take their places as soldiers of the Moon Kingdom and protectors of Princess Serenity. At Minako's mention of a prayer, Rei's eyes lit up.
"I can think of no better way to start our journey," Rei said, her ruby lips curling into a warm smile.
The Princess of Mars bowed her head and clasped her hands together in front of her chest.
"Sacred Spirit of the Fire we offer you our prayers on this night. Please watch over us as we begin our journey together and guide our steps as we walk the paths of our destinies."
As she ended the quick prayer the candles in the room erupted briefly, then returned to normal. Rei's smile widened.
"The Spirit is with us tonight."
---
Rei walked in silence with her fellow Princesses as they made their way towards the ballroom, the rubies dangling from her earrings and chocker and the gemstones in her combs sparkling in the dim light. Each of them wore lavish gowns that spoke both of the cultural preferences of their respective planets as well as the personalities of each individual princess. Rei's gown was blood red with thin straps that held it over her shoulders and a band of black lace that held it snug around her waist. Even in heels her skirt touched the floor and was slightly longer in the back, dragging behind her as she moved. The neckline was low but flattering and the soft satin fabric of the dress clung to her curves like shimmering water, yet sill allowed for the range of motion she would need to perform her dance. Compared to the others, her dress appeared simple and elegant, yet still very much represented the distinct fashion style of her home planet. Normally the dance she was to perform was done in the nude, which explained the simplistic style of her dress, but Princess Rei was confident in her ability to control the flames.
As the four of them rounded the corner Rei's deep purple eyes fell upon the ever regal form of Queen Serenity. The Princess of Mars gave a respectful curtsy to the Queen, taking note that Princess Serenity appeared to be running late as usual.
"Good evening, your Majesty."

Makoto felt a bit guilty as she watched Minako’s obvious frustration with the pushback the senshi were giving her. Honestly, she had thought she’d be in the minority with wanting to help Serenity, but the Moon Princess’ charm had affected all of them just as deeply it seemed.
She reached out her hand to Minako’s with a grin, acknowledging her respect for her.
Challenge One, complete, and they were a unit again!
She fully agreed with their leader that together there was nothing these solar princesses could not achieve. Their talents were distinct and that’s what allowed them to complement one another so well.
Mako bowed her head respectfully at the prayer and silently asked in her own fashion that they would all do their heritages proud. She was pleased that the Spirit of Fire seemed to be on their side tonight. She hoped the Storm too would blow favorably. Afterward she hurried back to her room to find that small entourage of handmaids finished with her dance dress. Mako thanked them profusely again as they helped her don the sparkling gown and tidy up her hair again with nothing more than a simple turquoise ornament used to tie her ponytail together. Nothing else would do if she was going to present herself as herself, she told the ladies. She thanked them all again and promised to bake them something for their trouble.
At long last, she was dressed and primed to go. Makoto rejoined the rest of the Princesses as they walked toward the ballroom. Mako herself felt it was like walking into an arena instead. Her dress jingled as the gems danced with her movements. As they came across Queen Serenity, Mako held herself straight and acknowledged the queen with a bow from the shoulders. She wondered if the Queen, who possessed many mythical powers by legend, had any clue of how they had just been discussing, for all intents and purposes, treason with her daughter before even being given the mantle of guardianship. With their discussion, Mako felt even more sure they were in the right, but it didn’t make it any easier to meet the Queen’s eyes.

“Excuse me.” Serenity said, squeezing her way through a few groupings of people after reuniting Cosette with her parents.
“Your highness!” One man said, quickly bending at the waist with all the formal pleasantries that were expected. That was all the attention she needed. Now, she had a gaping open path that led straight to the main staircase.
“Thank you.” Serenity said, sighing slightly. She nodded her head in respect before her fingertips daintily gathered the front layers of her gown. Gingerly, she made her way up the staircase where all the Inner Princesses and her mother were waiting.
“Serenity!” Ami called, as she saw those unmistakably golden locks emerge. “We were worried about you.” She said gently, perhaps chastising a bit. Rei’s gaze was much more annoyed.
“I’m fine.” She chuckled, while catching her breath. Reaching out a hand to Ami, she patted the woman on the shoulder. “You look beautiful. You all look beautiful.” She smiled. “Are you ready?” She questioned.
Whatever discomfort or nervousness she was trying to shake out earlier had now been expertly buried. She needed to be strong and confident for the group in front of her. She had to do them justice and introduce them to the Kingdom with the grace they deserved.
“Mother.” Serenity blushed, sweeping into a formal curtsy. Her eyes remained on the ground for a time. “I’m sorry that I’m late. Cosette snuck away from her mother to find me. I was reuniting her with her parents.” She said with amusement. “We all have put a lot of effort into this moment. I’m so excited for you to see it all.” She said, straightening her posture. There would be no more delay. It was time to begin.
Excitedly, Serenity gave a nod to the Royal Court’s Grand Master. He was a burly man, who towered above with great height. His icy blue eyes acknowledge the Princess. He simply slammed a rather large and elegant silver staff into the ground twice. There was something special about it, for the sound of it vibrated the entire room, causing the orchestra to calmly halt their playing, and even garnered the attention of the rather chatty Moon Kingdom attendees. His voice was deep and commanding. It had to be to fill the sweeping space around them with his sound.
“Good evening! Guests, may I present our Princess, the daughter of Queen Serenity.” He nodded, having done his part. There was something between he and the Princess, for he gave the young girl a wink of confidence and good luck before she began.
“On behalf of my mother and I, I want to thank each of you so much for coming tonight.” She said, clasping her hands together. There was a nervous excitement in her tone, but such sincerity and respect that came with her every word.
“This is such a special moment for our Kingdom. I’m glad we can share in it together. Tonight, we welcome the four Princesses from the Inner System who, from this day forward, will act as my guardians and council.” Her gaze shifted from the crowd as she neared each of the Inner Princesses, calling one at a time to step forward as she announced them formally:
“The Princess of Mars, The Princess of Mercury, The Princess of Venus, and the Princess of Jupiter.”
As she continued, she addressed the Princesses directly. “I ask you to commit yourself to a career of humanity. To the noble pursuit of maintaining the peace our ancestors created for us. To guide and support all of our allies to prosper our entire network of Kingdoms, so that we have a brighter future than we could ever have imagined.” She urged, pleading eyes mixed with her gentle expression.
Serenity then motioned to one of her trusted hand maidens who carefully carried forward the henshin sticks on a gleaming silver tray. “These represent your commitment to the roles and responsibilities of your new station. They will forever be a part of you to help you along this journey.” She advised, taking one a time and presenting them to each of the Princesses.
Her voice softened, for only those on the platform. “I’m so glad to have you here.” She said, before quietly addressing her mother. “Is there anything you would like to say before the Princesses present themselves to the Kingdom?” She questioned.
