The wind guardian inhaled sharply at Michiru’s light, enticing touches and the surely needless adjustment of her tie. The woman was composed as always, making her point painfully clear with her coy actions. Haruka felt a faint blush flash briefly across her nose, which she did her best to dismiss with a well-timed cough into her right hand. Swallowing perhaps a bit too anxiously as her hands swiftly returned to their owner, she blinked rapidly a few times, regaining her composure with a couple deep breaths. Never quite sure why she was so easily distracted and halfway undone by Neptune’s Princess, she just cursed inwardly, attempting to hide the lapse in poise.
Damn that woman. Damn her charm.
As quickly as her composure was revoked by the calculated aqua haired beauty, she also received the token to recovery. It was a game Michiru played far too well. It was a game she seeming always lost simply because Michiru deemed it so. Clearing her throat one more time to ensure she’d recuperated, she then smirked, “I’m but a grand disappointment to all the handmaidens who refuse to listen to the words I speak...” Grateful to cast her halfway interested gaze towards Princess Jupiter’s exit, granting her a moment of reprieve from the smaller woman’s gaze; fearful at her capacity to be captivated so effortlessly by her.
"As for the Senshi, let's hope they 'find themselves' and the proper priorities soon. Princess Serenity is restless to say the least..." Checkmate. Add notoriously terrible at conversation and general bluntness/rudeness to the list of less than desirable qualities that she had in spades. Haruka’s lips deepened into a frown as a bizarre send of guilt clawed at her. Her gaze became fixated upon the gem elegantly brushing against her bare, porcelain back. She found herself mesmerized by the woman’s mannerisms, and at the moment, her beauty. Generally other people’s perception of her wasn’t something she gave a second thought to, but when it came to Princess Neptune and her opinion; she was beyond conscious of it. She actually cared. She’d come to understand a long time ago that caring was weakness, and yet, she couldn’t hide it.
Tasked with the same heavy burden of keeping order without presence, she found a kindred spirit in Michiru. More than that even. An equal. A partner. Someone to shoulder the burden with, or least someone to commiserate with.
The wind was helpless against ocean’s crash. Moving to stand at her side she cast a wayward glance towards Sailor Mars exotic fire routine. As she spoke, her tone dropped, guilt likely tinging her words, despite her best attempt to hide it. “…I meant no disrespect, Michiru.” Taking a deep breath, she leaned her arms on the balcony, watching as the dancing flames engulfed Princess Mars. “Our Queen has accepted that the Princess has become a bit of a wanderer. I was to reign her in, return her home safely, from Earth no less.” The blonde woman chuckled lightly, “Different from the Queen? That would be putting it mildly…” The Princess was a dreamer and schemer, seemingly looking to do everything except the duties expected of her. The Queen was truly a woman born for her role, she’d accepted it and wore it with such an effortless grace.
Confidence returned to Haruka, her eyebrows piquing at the petite woman’s suggestion; she still had little resolve against her charms. Picking her left hand up from the railing and bringing it to gently brush against Michiru’s bare back. Narrowing her gaze at her slightly, she leaned over, opting to meet her mannerisms with the same enthusiasm. Haruka whispered gently into her ear, “Now, now, Michiru… how am I supposed to look charming with you stealing my line?”
The whisper-quiet approach of the Time Guardian was a welcomed reprieve from the onslaught of wit and charm from Michiru. A genuine smile crossed Haruka’s lips as she cast her gaze towards her. “Never an intrusion, Setsuna. Looks like the Queen allowed all of us out of our shadows for a moment.” She quipped gently, as she pulled her hand from Michriu’s back, allowing it to fall to her side. “Are the Time Gates are riveting as ever?”

Under normal circumstances Endymion may have found Zoisite’s ‘royal escapist’ quip amusing, but under the circumstance he just felt ill. His stomach twisting and turning with an uncomfortable sensation of nervousness, anxiety and fear. Those and that dammed desperation that refused to release its hold upon him. Pushing himself off of the pillar he glanced at Zoisite and offered a weak smile, though the darkness of Princess Jupiter’s performance hid it and his current emotional state.
“You’re not wrong Zoisite. Truth be told, I shouldn’t be surprised, she understood me too well.” No non-royal knew that sense of destiny, duty and loss of self as Serenity had. It was he who was the fool to not have assumed her status. Rolling his eyes in frustration at Nephrite’s change of subject. Of course he’d be the first to be scoping out a dance partner.
The man’s calm, collected wisdom was far more soothing that Nephrite’s would be seduction attempts. Zoisite was right, isn’t that what he came here for? Isn’t that what he comprised his relationship with his four Generals for? To steal Serenity away for a moment? Who would he be to judge her now for her station? She was truly no different than he, they both had dreams and desires that were locked away for the sake of their Kingdoms, for the sake of duty.
“Thank you Zoisite…” He said quietly, with a sad smile tugging at his lips.
Inhaling deeply, he was able to collect himself during Princess Mercury’s elegant display. At least to all those potentially looking on. The internal battle raged on as the Generals left his side, allowed him to figure out his demons. Were they truly demons? Or was it him giving into the first selfish desires he could recall? Normally he existed quite well in the boundaries set forth for him. It seemed everything had changed suddenly, and he couldn’t live like that anymore, he couldn’t go through the motions.
As Princess Mars wielded her fire with grace and precision, he felt as though she spoke to him. Gave him a strange sense of hope; that one could play with fire and yet not get burned. The Prince knew he was kidding himself, this woman knew the game, knew how not to get burned, he was just here out of desperation. Try as he might, he wasn’t sure he could adapt to the rules.

(Combined post from all Inner Princesses and Serenity to close out the main ceremony below!)
Serenity’s heart swelled with pride. She felt a renewed sense of strength and confidence flood her body, charged by her friends’ displays and the showering of applause from her Kingdom. There was something inherently nostalgic about this moment. She didn’t know why. But, she remembered being a little girl, feet unable to touch the ground when she sat in her throne next to her mother. She would have to ask for permission and help to move from place to place. Maybe this did represent a larger milestone in her life. Now that her performance was over Rei was able to relax a bit, easing off on her concentration and allow her senses to just absorb the warm atmosphere around her. That's when she felt it. There was a strange energy permeating the air, one that she did not recognize. This new sensation made her uneasy, but she did her best to mask her discomfort. Without moving her head so as to give the illusion she was intently watching Minako's performance, her deep purple eyes began to scan the crowd, hoping to discern the location of the strange energy. It was all she could do not to frown as a sea of masked faces stared blankly back at her. No one was going to stand out like this. Suddenly her gaze was captured by two shimmering green orbs peering through the eyes of a red mask. She nearly gave a start, surprised that anyone was bothering to look at her right now, yet there he was, this young man with short wavy blond locks staring right at her. But why? And what was it about his eyes that reminded her of something? But she had no time to wonder further because Minako's song was coming to an end. The Princess of Mars tore her gaze from the green orbs and watched the end of the Venetian Princess' performance, joining in the crowd's applause. Once again focusing her mind, she joined her fellow princesses on the stage for the final part of their presentation. After taking the chance to wipe the sweat from her brow and give her feet a chance to rest, she quietly took her seat again by her fellow Princesses to enjoy the rest of the performances. Everyone’s presentation sparkled with their personality and Mako enjoyed seeing them all come to life on stage just as Serenity did. She was no wimp when it came to giving applause either and she would have whistled a few times if she wasn’t on stage before half the Kingdom. Ami’s was as calculating as it was exciting; keeping people guessing until the very end. Rei’s felt like it turned her inside out: All her fiery passion and conviction suddenly manifested as fire for them all to witness. As they neared the end, she could see how many people were entranced by Minako’s exuberant presence. She smiled quietly. She had such superb charisma; that was why she was their leader, after all: Holding them all together in the tension between duty and spontaneity and being able to react with either within a moment. As with one will, she walked with the others toward Minako as the performance ended At the end of Minako’s presentation, Serenity’s hands grasped the edges of her throne’s armrest. And in one fluid push forward, she moved to rejoin all her friends at the front of the platform. She gave her mother a kind and confident glance as she went. All the unique tones and rhythms collided. The orchestra renewed the outpouring of music into the ballroom and in that moment, all the unique tone and rhythms of the different cultures collided. They played this unique mash-up that was modern and energetic. Standing between Minako and Rei, Serenity’s arms bent at the elbows, her hands outstretched vertically, holding still just above her waist. Her chin lowered and eyes closed, concentrating. In the open space between her hands a pink orb of energy formed, her fingertips fanned out, hovering about the orb as if to keep it in place. Rei placed her right hand over her heart and slowly pulled it away, drawing an arc of fire from her body that manifested into a small flame just above her palm. A wry smile played across her lips as she teasingly twirled her delicate index finger beneath the flame, setting it spinning until it formed an orb of red energy that glowed with the same ferocity as the Princess of Mars' spirit. Makoto reached her hand skyward with palm extended, as if asking the blessing of the Heavens. And it seemed like they responded as a cascade of light struck her hand. She grasped it and pulled it down, clapping her hands together over the energy. Then she stretched out her hands again lightning sparking as the energy coalesced into the green orb representing her power. It sparkled and trembled as if just begging the command to run wild as light and power again. Minako brought a hand toward her lips, fingertips were straight and held tightly together. As she pressed her fingertips to her lips gently, her hand pulled away, a bright orange globe of energy formed in front of her hand at the motion.
Ami’s right arm circled in front of her body and then the left, her legs bent at the knees as her hands came together and pulled away to reveal a bright blue orb of energy that waved and twisted like water. Serenity’s arms straightened and shoulders lifted as she her arms hooked outward and upward, stretching high above her head. Fanned fingertips opened like a budding flower about the orb of energy.
Minako’s left arm swooped to the side and moved upward, a single hand balancing the energy orb above.
With a flick of her wrist, Ami’s orb of energy lifted above her and then fell and floated just above her outstretched right arm. Her muscles tightened and fingertips curved about the orb that remained controlled and floating above her head. Rei curved her wrist and drew her hand across the orb, her fingers spread out like a fortune teller coaxing a crystal ball, until it once again rested above the tips of her fingers. She then thrust the orb upward, holding it above her head inches form her out-stretched finger tips. Mako moved with the others, pulling her hands apart further as if to give the orb more space to roam and lifting it gently with one hand high above her. Although above her hand, faint threads of energy danced between her outstretched fingers as if rooted to them. Serenity’s expression softened as she waved a hand, allowing all the energy orbs to float freely above, moving higher and higher. She warmly took Minako’s hand and then Rei’s, squeezing with affection. At Serenity’s motion, Ami turned her body, grasping at Rei’s other hand as she reached for Makoto’s to complete their circle. They were truly united in this moment. Ami felt something very different. The pressures that pounded over her in her presentation were gone and for a mind that was painfully aware—the crowd seemed to melt away from her thoughts. Her shoulders lowered and muscles relaxed, her gaze floated about each of the girls, smiling and honored to be with them. With the warmth of Serenity's and Minako's hands in hers, Rei felt the world around them fade away. At that moment, there was no one but them and their light and for the first time that evening, Rei truly felt at peace. Her smile was genuine, all traces of her icy exterior washed away by the warmth and love of her dearest friends. Makoto’s orb finally detached and free from her control, she grasped Ami’s and Minako’s hands with a smile, in turn exchanging that smile with each other Princess. The moment represented for her thankfulness for their presence, pride in their presentations, hope and expectation for the future that they were pledging their lives to, and most of all the joy of being united with Serenity—without whom none of this might even be possible. Their hearts were light and their minds were free now. Serenity’s gown billowed and her long train seemed to swirl in gentle, sweeping motions as the group lifted together. They were soaring. They floated high above, spinning about in a quick and lively circle. The orbs of energy were within arm’s reach now. But, as they spun, the orbs came to life, spinning about above them until they all jerked to the center, combining into one grand and mystically illuminated orb. Serenity’s wavy locks flowed freely with her movements. She looked to Minako and chuckled as if there were kids again, prancing about the grass and falling all over one another with silly stories. Rei could not stop the chuckle that bubbled forth from her chest. Here above the crowd, the Princess of Mars felt almost giddy. They were truly one. Deep down, they had always been one. Mako couldn’t help but join in the girlish laughter. There was a relief there, to be part of something that transcended duty, and expectation, and performance. They loved each other for each other, and that was reflected in this little intimate moment, high above the crowd. “I’m so glad you all are here. You each are so beautiful and powerful—it’s your moment to shine!” Serenity spoke only so they could hear. Serenity winked as she let go of Minako’s and Rei’s hands, gracefully floating back down to the ground. "We love you dearly, Serenity," Rei said in a whisper. "This moment is all of ours." As she spoke, she wrapped her delicate arms around herself and spun once, her hair billowing around her like an onyx cloak. “We wouldn’t be here without you, Serenity,” Mako added, “You have my thanks…and I’m sure all of ours too.” She finished, releasing her grip on Minako and Ami as she gestured at those present before flitting off. The emotional freedom of the moment lent itself wonderfully to dancing through the sky like a sparrow on a warm day. The weight of the gemstones in her dress kept it from flaring or billowing, but provided a nice effect of looking like she was swimming through the air like a sky mermaid. Serenity’s gown ruffled and whipped about her as her arms wrapped tenderly about her body, slowly sliding up above her head and then forward. The single orb of energy seemed to answer to Serenity’s command. It sped wildly to the center of the ballroom. And suddenly, Serenity clapped her hands together in one sharp movement, and then the orb exploded. A myriad of bright sparkles in a multitude of color floated down over the ballroom. All their work and energies, all their passion and pride was sent to connect with those in the Moon Kingdom. Serenity closed her eyes, letting out a tired breath. Her elbow pressed back into her chest and hand opened up to catch a few of the glimmering pieces as they dissolved at her touch. Her chin lifted and lips curved at feeling those energies. She watched on proudly, seeing the rest of the scene play out about the ballroom. From behind her, Minako had floated down, bringing a hand about Serenity’s waist as she leaned her head to the side of the woman’s face with a curious grin. “All the ceremony is over now, right Serenity?” She asked.
“For now, Minako. I think it’s only just begun though.” She mused. “You did well, Serenity. It is beautiful.” Minako whispered as she moved away to let the others have time with their Princess. She would now pick up the mantle of guardian and protector. Her duties began now. Slowly, Rei floated down, landing just after Minako, and approced Serenity from the other side. At the Venetian Princess' compliment, the Princess of Mars nodded her head, her deep purple eyes gazing at Serenity and a warm smile spread across her ruby lips. “Please, go have fun. Enjoy this night! Dance and drink, and get to know our people. I need to thank someone.” Serenity offered. Makoto landed reluctantly. It was literally like coming back to earth…or Moon, as the case may be. Her nervous energy had been expended and kept at bay through the great experience that was Serenity’s welcoming ceremony for them all. It had gone a lot better than Mako had ever expected when she first told them about it. But then again, the greatest challenge of endurance was here at last: Mingling on the dance floor. “I’ll do what I can, Serenity,” Mako said with a crooked grin. She placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed as a token of thanks and then went off to change into her original ball gown.
"I make no promises about dancing," Rei said with a grin as she turned and made her way off of the stage. In truth, the Princess of Mars was far more interested in tracking down the source of that strange energy she'd felt earlier. Her cold demeanor returned, Rei focused her mind on locating the energy and plunged into the crowd.

Michiru's shoulders curled up at the woman’s touch and perhaps the slightest rosebud tinge brushed across the bridge of her nose. A gentle smile washed over her expression as she closed her eyes, parting her lips to make her response, fingertips tapped gingerly along the cool surface of the railing.
Michiru recalled the words she was about to utter, closing her mouth an nodding her head politely to Setsuna. “Not intruding at all.” She said simply, turning her body and attentions slightly away from Haruka and toward the other woman.
Her ocean blue orbs were thoughtful and cautious of the new addition to the conversation. While Michiru had nothing but respect for Setsuna, she often found conflict with the sheer amount of information the woman kept tucked away in the recesses of her mind. What were their futures? Would they be bright and progressive or hapless, reckless, and potentially a little dangerous? Michiru could see certainly, but she would never see what the woman standing in front of them saw calmly drank in each day.
Setsuna’s duty put her on a level of solitary responsibility that Michiru could not comprehend. Michiru always had Haruka, at least that one person to lean on and partner with when such things were necessary. To see as much as Setsuna could see, but to tell no one and share it with no one seemed so bleak. Queen Serenity must have had the upmost confidence in the woman. With such access to sacred information and powers, she could tip the scales of time and paint almost any outcomes she preferred. Michiru may embrace her own form of solitary, but she reveled in the vibrancy of her life. Music and art were her passions, and being one with her home world’s most picturesque, natural element never ceased to thrill her.
“This must be a rather large moment for you to step away from the time gates.” Michiru said, stirring from her contemplative silence. “I hope you enjoy this evening--do you plan to stay around longer?” She smiled. “I’m sure we should all thank the Queen for such an invitation, together, at some point.” She offered, gaze drifted calmly between her two companions.

Of the many things the Guardian of Time enjoyed about the Wind Guardian her razor wit was among her favorite. She also spoke her mind with confidence, an ability Setsuna admittedly envied.
"It is certainly a strange sensation, being in the light," she said casually watching Princess Minako's performance.
"Always," she said with a smile, turning to face the two women.
"Every moment carries with it the potential for impact, but the gates are never without my attention." Her answer was cryptic, but she knew an explanation would make even less sense. Unlike everyone else, Setsuna existed outside of time itself allowing her to be in two places at once. It was a skill, however, that she reserved only for keeping an eye on the time gates while attending to the summonses of the Queen. While most people would pressure her for a more straight-forward answer, the Guardian of Time knew that her companions would respect need for discretion.
"I will admit," she continued, "I almost didn't come. But I knew the two of you would be here and I do enjoy your company, as fellow shadow dwellers." Her smile turned into a wry grin. She could be pretty witty herself.
"I will stay until I am no longer needed," she said, her amethyst eyes distracted for a moment by the Princess' finale. "But I agree that we should thank the Queen at some point."
Applause erupted downstairs, signaling the end of the presentation. The orchestra then began to play as those downstairs started to mingle.
"This balcony is beautiful," Setsuna began, turning from the two women and gazing around at it. "It's secluded, quiet," she said as she moved towards the stairs, "and large enough to enjoy a dance."
Her wry smile returned as she began to descend the staircase, hoping that the two women behind her would understand the meaning of her words.

Queen Serenity took to recline in her throne beside Serenity, to watch the presentation her daughter had pieced together with the Inner Princesses. Each of the young Princesses showed so much beauty while exuding such a great show of power. The more pragmatic side of her worried that the display of powers may have frightened those in attendance; however for now it seemed they were merely mesmerized by the routines. She hoped that was true.
A beautiful, elegant display of an orb, which ended the ceremony in a twinkle of sparkles throughout the air. Casting a sweeping gaze over the crowd, it seemed no one took to fear the Princess’ Guardians. At least not today. A heavy sigh rose from the Queen, her daughter was so charming, inspirational and lovely; a truly wonderful young woman. Practicality? Not one of her strong suits. Instead of honoring her guardians by explaining to the people who they were as young women, she opted to show off their immense power. Serenity simply didn’t realize that sometimes the greatest power needed to remain hidden. As to not cause fear nor cause dangerous ideas to form.
As the ceremony concluded, a smile swept her face as she rose gracefully from her throne. Clapping along with the guests as Serenity wished her guardians to go enjoy themselves. Approaching her daughter, she placed a firm hand upon her shoulder and offered a curt smile. Such an emotion would surely portray her message. “The ceremony went quite well, Serenity. Do go enjoy yourself tonight. You’ve worked quite hard for this, we shall talk later, my Darling.” Queen Serenity leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss upon her brow before taking her skirt into her fingertips and moving briskly from the stage.
Once alone in the quiet corridor, she allowed herself to feel the wave of tiredness sweep over her. Pressing a gentle hand against her forehead, she inhaled deeply. Perhaps she would head to the prayer room to recover. As she cast her azure gaze up, she was reminded that her duties never did cease, even when feeling a bit off. Two guards approached with a special visitor between them.
Queen Serenity spread her arms wide at Artemis’ approach, a warm smile crossing her lips. “Welcome to the Moon Kingdom, Advisor Artemis. I am honored that you accepted my invitation to serve as council to Princess Venus. I believe you know my Advisor Luna? Surely you will be able to reunite tonight.” Gesturing to the ballroom’s doors, she began walking slowly to match his pace.
“Allow me to introduce you to Princess Venus, then you may also join the festivities and relax a bit. Enjoy a Moon Celebration with us.” Clasping her hands together as she re-entered the ballroom, she glanced about, looking for the Senshi of Love. She stood a few feet behind Serenity, watching over her; as though the young woman realized the gravity of her station. It was a reassuring thought. She’d hoped to be able to have Princess Uranus return to the Outer reaches of the Solar System after tonight, but perhaps it would be best to set the Inner Princesses up with a backup plan. The quiet, but effective presence of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune.
It was time for her to remind Princess Venus that her burden was heavier than the rest, that she was tasked with guarding her daughter, but also with ensuring that the others had direction and follow through. With a swift flick of her hand she motioned for Minako to join her. “Princess Minako of Venus.” She said softly, looking to the blonde Princess before her, “Although you have given so much, you have a heavier burden than your fellow Princesses. For you are tasked as the Leader of the Inner Princesses.” Gently she took Minako’s hand between her own, “As a leader you will struggle at times, and you will prevail for that is your nature. To help in your times of fear and insecurity, I will give you a confidant. Someone to give you guidance, when your heart fails you.”
Releasing Minako’s hand she turned gracefully, beckoning the snow white feline forward. “His name is Artemis, and he hails from the same planet as Luna, my daughter and I’s dearest friend and advisor. He will keep you company and impart his wisdom to you at all times. He will be both a loyal friend and confidant.”

For a moment—a swift and brief moment—Serenity took in her surroundings. People were mesmerized and in awe of the cultural displays and power the group exhibited. She watched her people interact with the specks of energy that were still slowly floating and dissipating about the room. It was beautiful. She didn’t feel a single eye on herself, and there was something uniquely freeing about that realization.
The Princess sucked in a sharp breath at the touch of a cool hand pressed carefully on her shoulder. “Mother…” she began, a bit caught of guard. As her ocean blue gaze traced her Mother’s expression her own lips straightened. Not good enough. It was quietly tucked behind her mother’s smile and her quick mention of speaking more later. Her eyes closed as her mother left a tender kiss upon her brow. Beyond the complications and impossible expectations, Serenity knew there was nothing but love and protection there.
She let out a sigh. She needed to be more patient with her mother. She knew that. Before Serenity had a chance to speak further, her mother was off to the next thing. She sighed and picked her crestfallen heart up. This was going to be a beautiful night for her friends. No need to wallow in self-doubt or conversations that would come later. Tonight, she would drink in tonight! She was going to enjoy it. She just hoped her people would embrace them with the warmth and tenderness they deserved.
She tipped her upper body to the side as she reached for the lower corner of her gown before she moved gingerly away from the main platform, down the stairs, and to the orchestra that continued to play to the right side of the ballroom floor. “Conductor Penchant.” She called from behind, placing a hand beside her mouth to amplify the sound and get his attention.
The happy, bald man turned, flicking the small conductor’s stick in perfect time—even with his attentions moving to the Princess. “Princess!” He beamed. Serenity moved toward the man, sweeping a hand up toward his cheek. “Thank you. Please tell all the musicians thank you. You all did so much work in such a short time. It was perfect.” She smiled, nodding with gratitude.
“It was my pleasure Princess. But, the night is young. I hope our music will inspire at least one dance out of you.” He nodded back, before tapping the stick against his music stand to begin the next set of songs to get the heart of the ball started.

Minako clasped her hands gently about her hips, shoulders lifted as she took in one deep breath and exhaled. So, this is it. Now the real work begins. Her eyes flickered left and right, making contact with the onlookers and potential gockers. She wasn’t certain of the desired outcomes Serenity had hoped to generate from their presentation. But, if being clearly known and recognized, the presentation had certainly accomplished that. To be fair, Minako enjoyed the spotlight. She craved attention. But in this new role, she needed the opportunity to blend and shadow. She shrugged, continuing to ponder. Perhaps now things we be more of a challenge, but she accepted those as they came.
With a straight back and a piercing gaze she moved obediently to the Queen’s side. “Your Highness.” She swept into a formal curtsy.
At the Queen’s first words, it was as if something large and hard had formed in her throat, suffocating her confidence and choking out any words she could mutter. Her burden would be heavy. The Queen was powerful and swift in her judgments. Did she know that Minako had already betrayed the confidence the Queen had in her? Allowing her daughter to go to Earth again, if the opportunity presented itself. If Serenity felt restless and needed to wander. Was she dooming herself to treasonous acts? Would she be no more than a casualty of her own desire for diplomacy?
The Queen took her hands within her own, and all Minako could do was gulp quietly. “I will not let the weight of burden ever hinder my ability to protect our Princess.” She said after a time, regaining her composure. “Thank you, for your sincere investment in me, my planet, and this token of support.” She offered. Turning to acknowledge Artemis directly, her gaze fell toward the ground. “Artemis.” She nodded her head in respect. “It’s my pleasure to meet you. I look forward to your council and guidance.” She smiled politely.

In another part of the castle, before the ball began, a new member of the royal court was settling into a cat nap. Well, to say he was new was not entirely correct, but this adviser was ordinarily off-world, acting as an ambassador and researcher. He and those of his race were gifted at retaining and exchanging information and were often used as personal courtiers because of these skills. In the darker past they were also employed as spies for the same reason. But distant history aside, the adviser Artemis had been recalled to the Moon for a special assignment. He was a proud cat and he considered this new role as personal assistant to the Princess’ captain of the guard as a promotion and reward for his years of faithful service. He’d be able to meet the Venetian Princess soon, so he wanted to be well rested to give a good first impression.
He sleep like a rock before waking up and glancing sleepily at the clock, “Oh man…I’m late!” he had been wanting to meet everyone before the festivities began, but his poor timing had cost him that. If he hurried though, he’d still be able to see all the performances. A quick brush of his fur and he bounded through the hallways; his role providing him access to back passages that brought him besides the royal stage. It was there that he encountered Luna, Princess Serenity’s personal aide. As the most successful of their race, Artemis looked up to Luna just as much as he envied her. He tended to get defensive around her even as he tried to impress her. He was certainly starting off his assignment left-pawed.
“Hey, Luna.” He said casually, as if his arriving late to the scene was perfectly natural, “I haven’t seen you in a dog’s age! How’s the royal life treating you?”
After he smoothed things over, he went with Luna to the side of the royal stage. Luna parted to see the Queen, but Artemis remained to the side. He couldn’t be so casual in meeting the Queen as to just so up besides Luna in the middle of the ceremony. Artemis was impressed with the senshi’s abilities. They surpassed even what he had read in their profiles. Of course, he watched Minako’s with the most attention – it would be her that he would work with the closest. She seemed…fiery. As one used to working with pussyfooting diplomacy and dusty tomes, it riled him a little to see her so animated. Still, he had been chosen by the Queen, and he would give his duties 110%!
After Minako’s performance, Artemis went and caught the attention of two nearby guards, “I’m supposed to meet with the Queen; can you bring me around the back?” He asked. It wouldn’t do for him to see her without an escort, of course.
“Your Majesty,” he bowed his head to Queen Serenity, “It is a deep honor to be able to serve the Crown and her household. I was pleased to reunite with Luna briefly before the ball, and I look forward to working with her again. As well as working with the Princess’ newly installed Captain.” He finished with a cat grin.
He walked with the Queen with a practiced confidence. Finally, she called out to Minako.
That was quite the poetic introduction, but the Queen’s smooth words were unrivaled in the galaxy. Artemis bowed to Minako, “Princess Minako, it is my deepest honor to be of assistance to you. I hope you may find me useful in any capacity you require."
He smiled to the Princess. Artemis had not gotten to the position he was in without being able to read people, and he could read Minako's discomfort easily. He wasn't sure if she felt insulted by being given an adviser or what, but he'd file it away for when it was more appropriate to ask. He would never be able to assist her if she mistrusted him, after all.

Ami was quick to exit the presentation platform and get lost among the crowd. Although she would never hesitate to do what’s asked of her, she wasn’t a person who craved spotlight. She preferred letting her hard work and how it helped people speak for itself. She didn’t need titles and praise for fulfillment. Shrugging her shoulders, she rounded the staircase to the upper levels of the ballroom.
Gingerly she placed her hand upon the railing to make her ascent. For a brief moment she watched as the Queen and Minako spoke. Not even a day into their duties and Ami was already aware of the special scrutiny and weight Minako faced. She hoped that she and the other Inner Princesses were not condemning the woman to some failure. As long as they trusted each other, wouldn’t fate always take their side?
Her gaze lifted, as if bringing her whole conscious out of the depths of her mind. And her first moments back in reality were seeing a women dressed in an ornate black gown that seemed to mimic the galaxy itself.
“Hello.” Ami said simply, meeting the woman at the midsection of the staircase. Odd. Ami wasn’t one to openly greet strangers. “Your gown…and your necklace…are quite beautiful.” She said after a moment of silence. There was something so unique about the woman. Her gaze and how she interacted with space was as if she were buried within a book. The walls, the people…they were all lessons and this woman carefully drank in everything.
“Are you a guest of the Princess, or the Queen?” She questioned, gaze falling to the ground in silent apology before she shifted her body tightly against one the railings, as others tried to move about the two on the busy staircase.
“I’ve been to this Kingdom many times, and although it would be obnoxious to think I’d know everyone in those brief encounters…I feel I’d remember a woman of your stature.” She offered reasoning for her line of questioning. She hoped the woman wouldn’t find her rude. But, there was something gentle in her temperament that Ami found soothing. She certainly preferred to all the chaos and noise of the main floor.

“Thank you again, your Majesty.” Minako bowed her head in respect with a shining smile. “I’d like to take this opportunity to get to know Artemis better, as I’m certain we’ll be partnering on many initiatives.” She added, politely dismissing herself from the other woman’s presence. “I hope you enjoy this evening. I know Serenity put a lot of heart and effort into pleasing you.” She offered, before turning away and motioning for Artemis to follow.
They exited the same way Artemis entered. There was silence between the two. Minako walked quickly, hands delicately clasped together about her waist. All that could be heard was the sound of her heels clicking against the marble tiles with every quick step. She wanted to be removed from uninvited eyes and ears for this special conversation.
Once the two found themselves in that same quiet hallway within the palace and away from the ballroom, Minako’s gaze hardened. She looked out a nearby window, basking in the beauty of the stars and the evening as she spoke.
“Before you take on this position Artemis, I want to give you the opportunity to leave it.” She said flatly. She turned away from the window, kneeling down to be closer to the stark white animal.
“I don’t mean to frighten you. I know Luna is wonderful, and I trust you are the same. But, I have to know, who will you report to?” She questioned. Her emerald eyes sparkled fiercely. “Me? Or Queen Serenity?” She gave him two simple options.
“You don’t know me. It’s difficult to put your trust into someone you don’t know.” She frowned, biting the tender flesh of her lower lip. She sucked in a sharp breath, giving one more protective glance about the place before continuing:
“But, I refuse to be a leader that rules alone. I work as equals with the other Princesses. Collectively, we’ve recently made some decisions…we’re prepared to do some things that could betray the Queen’s trust in us all—for our Princess.” She whispered, shifting her weigh upon the backs of her legs as she tucked them beneath her waist, sitting.
“The Queen has her own rules and notions of what responsibility, duty, and right is. I, along with the others, are giving Serenity the freedom to find her own way and make some of her own decisions. She deserves the right to be her own monarch and carve her own destiny. I would hope you’d support me in this. If you cannot, I don’t blame you. But, if you cannot, we will not work together.” She added.

[This is a combined post for Serenity and Endymion]
The crossroads. Endymion knew he had to make a choice. Either seek Serenity out and let her know he was here, or turn and leave. Leave without saying anything and just let her become a ghost in his past. His gloved hands tightened their grip upon the railing, as though gripping it tighter and tighter would somehow make his mind up for him.
The uncomfortable knot grew in his throat and it was impossible to swallow it away. It was choking him. His sapphire eyes were intensely fixed upon her, center stage surrounded by her guardians and more beautiful than he remembered her to be.
Serenity. No, that wasn’t it. Princess Serenity of the Moon. Well, she’d left a rather important detail out, hadn’t she? The twinkling of her hair pieces distracted him, allowing him to pull his gaze aside for a moment, grant him a moment to collect his thoughts.
He’d never come into a situation so recklessly. In this situation he was throwing all caution to the wind. He certainly hadn’t planned for this.
Releasing the railing, he pressed his hand to his forehead and closed his eyes. Why had he come here? What was his true motive? A wry smirk pulled at his lips as he realized what he would do. His reason? Because he’d promised her he would find her again. Although he was many things, a liar and fraud wasn’t one of them.
Prince Endymion opened his eyes, that smirk growing in determination as he made up his mind in a single moment. Throwing caution to the wind once more, he took the nearby staircase down, slowing as he reached the bottom, seeing her more closely now.
No longer could he tear his gaze from her. The closer he got, the more enchanted he was, the more desperate. Yes, that was his second motive. He had been desperate to see her again. The man couldn’t even focus on the beautiful displays of her guardians, the Princess’ of the Inner Planets. Their demonstration ended in a glorious orb raining down colorful sparkles on the crowd.
Her powers again. Would they tire her? As his moment to seize her attention drew nearer, his heart began to race without permission. He wasn’t used to this. Wasn’t used to pursuing someone. Deep down he knew his time was severely limited. Once they realized the Princess of the Moon was the ‘target’ or ‘beautiful and intriguing woman’, his Generals may want to evacuate faster.
As she floated down towards the orchestra, her stunning gown making him unsure if she was actually walking or not, he saw his chance, his moment. Endymion made his way through the crowd, uttering hushed ‘excuse me’ as he went.
Her pale white heels clacked about the marble flooring as she took a few steps away from the orchestra, looking onward. Pride consumed her. All the planning, tinkering, and praying had all built up to that moment. Her shoulders lifted as she clasped her hands together near her chest. The ceremony and presentations were over. It was more magical than she had imaged—how each of the Princesses exhibited their skills. Interestingly enough, so much of their personalities complemented the very elements they wielded with grace and control. And although her mother’s stern look of concern lingered in the back of her mind, she was pleased with how it all worked out.
He faltered, his mouth going dry as he stood just behind her, pausing before his boldness and confidence took back over. Sweeping up behind her, he placed his hand gently against the small of her back.
At feeling something about the small of her back, her hips shifted forward, her shoulder blades edged backward, and her posture straightened. Quickly, her head turned to find the source of the feeling, only to be filled with a warm, breathy whisper in her ear.
“Your Majesty. Allow me to steal you for a dance…” Opting to reduce her option of choice, he pulled her with him, leading her to the side, hoping to converse with her without as many people to overhear.
Her eyes widened and lips parted. ‘That voice, seems so familiar.’ She thought.
“Oh!” She said, wobbling forward with lacking balance. It was the second time that evening she found herself nearly tripping over her gown at his sudden and forceful tug. They moved quickly. She fought to assemble her previous thoughts into anything clear.
After a few moments traveling with him and regaining her resolve, she tried to push away. “I’m sorry.” She waved a hand politely. “I hadn’t planned on dancing tonight, but you should ask one of my guardians. I’m certain each are hopeful for a dance.” She offered—some level of hesitation and confusion mixed with her gentle and kind words.
Endymion’s eyebrows raised and set as a bright smirk spread across his expression, a chuckle rising from the back of his throat. “Well.” Mirth danced in his dark blue eyes at the realization that she didn’t recognize him beneath the simple mask. He figured it was something to keep in mind for the future. “You certainly know how to force someone’s hand rather promptly, don’t you, My Lady.” Looking down at her, his heart hammered mercilessly inside his chest at her closeness, his nerves unhinged by her beauty.
Her cheek muscles tightened and brow furrowed at his statement. He was so informal and so forward. No one in the Kingdom would ever speak to her this way. “I…I don’t quite understand…” She said, concern rose in her tone and she took a few more steps back from him. Perplexed sapphire eyes drifted from the man, looking toward a guard posted nearby.
Internal conflict aside, his confidence shone through as he bent deeply at the waist. To be fair, he felt a pang of guilt for causing her any semblance of fear. Taking care to ensure that no one in the vicinity was watching them before he opted to pull the white mask from his face and in one swift movement that same hand folded at his waist. At times he was known to have a flair for the dramatic, and it seemed to be the time and place. Endymion then glanced up, hope and some flicker of desperation in his blue eyes as he met her gaze for the first time that evening.
His first proper act of formality snapped her attention back toward the curious stranger. In that instant, everything became clear. She froze, bringing a hand up over her mouth. “You…” she whispered in disbelief through her fingertips. Her eyes traced over his ebony hair, gentle expression, and those deep blue eyes. Of course, she should have known.
“I do apologize for being rather forward…” His grin softened into a genuine smile as he replaced the mask and extended his right gloved hand to her, “You look beautiful tonight, Princess Serenity.” His eyebrows raised as he posed the question, “Are you certain you hadn’t planned on dancing at all tonight? Perhaps you’d consider one dance?”
She blushed at his sentiment, mind racing to find the truth. Raw and exposed again, she felt completely transparent. Her lips curved wide into a bright smile as her sapphire eyes seemed to dart about his figure, as if trying to convince herself he was real. Was this just a cruel trick of her mind, for this same man and his memory haunted her so.
A wave of relief washed over him as her face brightened with recognition and dare he say, joy. In that moment, he knew the endeavor, regardless of the danger involved, had been worth all the hassle.
Her trembling hand snatched his, squeezing. “But how?” She said breathlessly, moving near him, unable to stop smiling.
She moved closer, taking his hand with a fervor that he could identify all too well. Desperation. His hand closed gently about hers, drawing her to the edge of the dance floor, far enough that their voices would be drowned out by the music. Nearly everyone was dancing, so dancing was the only way to blend in. He knew his reasons were more selfish than that, that he wanted her all to himself for whatever moment he could steal. “Simple. I came to the Moon.” Sighing slightly, the smirk not fading as he continued.
She chuckled at his light-hearted response, taking in a breath and regaining her composure. “It’s not that simple for you to just, come to the Moon.” She said with animated eyes.
She let out a bemused breath, her free hand dipped at the layers of fabric of her gown, moving quickly with him. The train of her gown bellowed and curved with every little motion. Her posture and mannerisms were polite—everything expected from a Princess. Yet, her eyes were filled with depth and adventure. Internally her heart was tangled up and thumping loudly. Between the two of them, they were playing out a forbidden and private scene, and mocking the world that watched. “You know this is insane…it’s not safe for you here.” She stammered.
Shrugging plainly at her questions, he smiled brightly, his left hand taking her waist, his right closing gently about her left hand as he fell gently into the cadence of the music. Surely now she could see through his mask; understand how elated he was for this moment.
“Insane is a strong word, I’d prefer if you called me ambitious for showing up at your lovely home.” His gaze was unwavering as he stared into her bright sapphire gaze, his voice warm, even as he chided her.
“Hm. It is lovely, isn’t it?” She questioned, lowering her gaze for the briefest of moments as her lips curved upward, pleased that he enjoyed her homeland. “I will call you relentless.” She mused, pursing her lips at his boisterous confidence.
Somehow she danced with him. But she didn’t hear the music—she didn’t see the crowds of people moving about them.
The way her emotions played out across her face in a soft rose flush seemed to make her even more beautiful, more relatable, and more real. “I can live with relentless.”

“That’s quite alright Princess, I want you to enjoy—“Artemis began, but cut off when he read the seriousness of her intentions. He followed at her heels, a mix of anxiety to please and anxiety of what he had gotten into playing through his feline heart. The first words out of her mouth stunned him into silence. He sat on his haunches, eyes wide before his practiced diplomatic calmness helped him to relax. He already expected her to be a firebrand, but really? People who started conversations like this were, in his experience, either a) well aware of their reputation for forcefulness and lived up to it b) hiding a secret that was worth lives or c) preferred working alone and hated the idea of somebody looking over their shoulder. Artemis stayed quiet as he narrowed down the possibilities while she spoke.
It was a secret. Artemis sighed internally. He wasn’t sure if he was relieved that it was the case, but secrets could be dealt with much easier than personalities. Diplomacy to a large degree was bartering with secrets, with trust being the weight of value. But it brought up an interesting point. The Queen had assigned him to be an assistant and advisor to Princess Minako. It wasn’t like the royal charter came complete with small print, but he was sure the expectation was that he would serve both: Minako is everyday exploits, and the Queen with a brief but regular update on her abilities and progress. This was the assignment he had been hoping for…and five minutes in he was already put at a critical junction. But Minako’s next words took him aback. Although saying that she wanted to know if she could trust him or not, she was already unveiling the type of betrayal they were involved in. This girl was so…open. Just like she did on stage, her open honesty was something he was not used to dealing with in the complex world of interstellar politics. If they were playing a political game, she would have already put herself in check. He sighed, this time openly. He could see the pieces in play and knew what role he had to fulfill.
“Princess…” he said with a bowing incline of his head to show his deference to her, “If you don’t trust me yet, there’s no way you should have shared any of that with me. If I were fully obligated to the Queen, all of that would be in her ear by the end of the evening. But the job I’ve accepted is to be your advisor and assistant. You may even consider me your vassal if you’d like: Your secrets are my secrets. Including that.” He lifted his head and smiled warmly at her, “All my skills and experience are at your disposal, as well as my opinions and advise on your decisions…which is why I feel the need to ask you don’t say things like that so openly with someone you are unsure of. In full honesty, I expect the Queen will ask me to give regular updates on how you are performing your duties, but I will keep your confidence even to the executioner’s block. I would never trust an advisor who lived otherwise. If you accept me, I look forward to supporting you at being the very best support to Princess Serenity there can be…though it sounds like it is already off to a complex start…” he concluded, tilting his head and looking a little concerned.

Minako’s lips curved upward at his bluntness. “I like you Artemis. I think we’ll get along quite well.” She mused. “I always trusted you.” She admitted, tilting her head to the side coyly. “It was myself and my methods I’d grown wary of. I needed a transparent voice to give me the hope that I was dangerously doing right by my Princess in these actions.” She admitted, folding her hands together at her waist while she leaned her back against the wall.
She nodded her head politely, remaining seated. “You’ve given me that hope. And, if I was endangering her, I’d want someone else to take my place—whatever punishments would await me from the Queen, I’d be ready for and deserving of.” She sighed.
“A complex start, indeed.” She chuckled after releasing a gentle sigh while meeting his concerned gaze. “I’d rather have complexity than unrest among the guardians. For success, we must be an aligned unite. We have to believe in and trust one another.” She offered.
“Tell me, Artemis. Why did you take on this role? And, from what you know and have seen, what do you think of Serenity’s guardians?” She questioned with a gentle expression. "Oh! And what do you know of Luna?" She moved closer to him. "Any interesting stories that would be useful to know?" She rose a brow. She always loved a juicy story. And suddenly she felt it—that pang of home sickness. She missed the gossip and the stories that were whispered within ever corridor. They were far simpler and less treasonous, at least.
Her emerald green eyes gazed up at the ceiling for a time, letting him ponder his answer. She thought about the duty and the training. People forgot they were young and had their own individual dreams and aspirations. There was still so much to learn about themselves and come to terms with. It was indeed a heavy burden to try doing all of those things and keep up with Serenity’s vivacious nature.
She brought a hand over her shoulder, kneading into the tender flesh. It was a nice respite with him. She saw how Serenity treated Luna, but was Artemis truly the same? Where would he stay, what did he eat, and would he hate being picked up or pet on the head? There was much to learn.
She leaned her head forward, extending out a hand to him. “Thank you for your trust and confidence in me and the others.” She said after a time. “Really, thank you.” She reiterated with a light smile.

Post by General Kunzite on Feb 22, 2015 12:17:53 GMT -5
Kunzite reached out his hand and caught one of the sparkling glimmers of light, half entranced and half repulsed. This was an awful lot of pageantry for the induction of a personal guard. When he and his fellow generals had been introduced, it had been with a dignified starkness, not all these frivolities. Kunzite even imagined a scene of Zoisite, Nephrite, Jadeite and himself dancing in the air around Endymion…and the scene made him a little ill. What kind of Kingdom was this, really, if everything was sugerplums and fairies? This focus on the “childishness” of the ceremonies was of course overlooking the fact that these Princesses, one and all, could FLY on top of all the other amazing feats they accomplished.
He glanced around, taking a read of the reactions. Most were taken by the color and glow of the event – but not everyone. He noticed a pair of women in particular who seemed to have some resentment as much as he might have, and that gave him insight that the whole kingdom was not just about playfulness. Considering how his bias was always to believe the Moon gleefully lauded over its systematic oppression of the Earth, he began to wonder if the majority of people here lived in ignorance while a few provided the gains from Earth. Well, it would mirror his own Kingdom’s position, so it wasn’t too far-fetched.
After all of that, however, the meat of the party finally began. Now things began to resemble what he was used to seeing at royal balls: Dancing and music. His eye caught the flutter of Endymion’s cape as he moved in for a dance with this Princess of his. Kunzite couldn’t help but smirk, a little bitterly, at how it seemed he could barely contain himself around her. It was like seeing behind the stage; the object of all his nervous energy to make sense of all the risks and desperation he had put them through to make it here. The boy was obviously in love, and that conversation put Kunzite through some complex emotions. Fear for his future. A desire to protect his heart from a woman who could bring him nothing but suffering and longing. A little bit of envy that Endymion could experience such a desperate romance. A little bit of thankfulness that he himself never did. Regardless, their mission was accomplished, and outside of anyone doing something stupid, Kunzite began to believe they could enjoy the evening without much more worry. The whole atmosphere was enchanting and it was hard for even Kunzite to fully resist its charms.
But Kunzite was still Kunzite and he kept his station with attention, watching for any sign of danger as everyone else enjoyed themselves.
