Minako's gaze seemed distant, although she was carefully listening to each word the raven-haired princess uttered while rhythmically tapping the tips of her fingernails against the side of her wine glass. "I agree," she chimed in. "Yet, after tonight, do you think Serenity will ever divulge her method for getting to Earth?" She frowned, internally drawing her own conclusions for an answer. "With our henshin rods, we all have the ability to move about at will as our guardian roles and responsibilities govern, which I assume is also how our not-so-friendly comrades from the outer system are so nimble. It's clear that at least one of them were called in to search for Serenity under our noses," Minako sighed, her frustrations swelling. "Do you think the Queen has so little confidence in us? What is their purpose?" She questioned, tossing a pillow off the bed with a huff, before falling back against the wall of pillows on the bed without a single drop of wine being spilt. "I'm sure they've already complained to the Queen about my lack of leadership tonight," her gaze momentarily narrowed before she rolled her eyes.
The Princess of Mars' words peaked Minako's Venetian interests, taking her mind away from duty and on to the spicier topic she most enjoyed. "What else could you see and feel from him?" She grinned, sauntering away from the bed to pour herself and Rei another glass. "Keep up now," she muttered, bringing her glass to her lips and motioning for the other woman to drink. "I want to learn as much as possible here; hold nothing back!" She pleaded, playfully.
Rei sat forward, her robe falling open to reveal the red satin nightgown she wore underneath, and rested her elbows on her knees, cupping the glass between her hands. "Sorry about that. I just get really frustrated when I can't figure out one of my visions. And it would seem that lately, my visions bring more questions and fewer answers." For the first time since her confession, Rei turned her eyes to the Venetian Princess to see her reaction to the glimpse behind the wall of ice that the Princess of Mars had just allowed her.
"We're both frustrated tonight, my friend," Minako said somberly. "The important thing is to put on strong face where we must, which is with Serenity," she offered, placing a hand gently on the woman's shoulder. "But, between you and I, it's imperative that you allow yourself to feel what you are feeling--unapologetically." Her facial features softened, returning to the soft confines of the stack of pillows behind her, gaze lifted to the ceiling. "That lead general of Earth's Kingdom," she shook her head, amusement in her tone. "At first, I thought he had the emotional range of a teaspoon." Biting the tender flesh of her lower lip. "I think he, and many of the others, came to the Moon Kingdom assured of its arrogance and propriety. And they left recognizing there are pockets of fresh thinking and renown respect for the Earth Kingdom here," she added, sitting up. "I saw a shimmer of more from him, from all of them really." She admitted. "What a night," the words rolled off her tongue flatly, choosing to finish the thought via another sip of wine. It was time to drink her feelings and unwind while she could. Serenity was bound to keep them all on their toes. The question remained who else would be brought into their orbit by way of the Moon Princess' off-script adventures.

Makoto's once proud and towering persona seemed to crumble right in front of her. Ami surveyed the woman's puffy, swollen eyes and dejected nature. Often relying on logic through the absence of emotion, Ami felt suddenly overwhelmed and out of her depth. Makoto had opened up to her, confided in her--and she could tell the other woman felt as if she had let her peers down in allowing Serenity another unsupervised trip to Earth. Her mind was spinning through a myriad of next steps, of things to say to help Makoto move forward--for them all to move forward together.
Suddenly, her next words seemed simple: "I would have done the same thing, Makoto," Ami realized, finding ease in her words because they were fact.
"That's why I think we let this evening play out," Ami added. "Serenity was looking for a specific confidant, and she turned to you. I think you must maintain her trust at all costs in the coming days. After the events of this evening, I would not judge Serenity for feeling as if she couldn't fully trust and rely on any of us to support her going forward--in a way that makes sense to our adventurous and heart-first princess," she added.
"We've all had a long evening, and what's done is done," she continued to rationalize. "So, we let the evening play out and trust that Serenity will return to us by morning. We give our inner circle a chance to reflect and recoup from these events before we strategize as a team on how to best move forward," she recommended. "Does that sound fair, Makoto?" She questioned, putting on a strong face for her fellow guardian. Yet, the strain of the evening and being on the unfortunate receiving end of Serenity's powerful backlash had taken its toll. A searing pain had set into her back, most poignantly centralized between her two shoulder blades. Internally, she wondered if she could get into the laconia's warm and soothing waters at such a late hour.
As her mind played back some of the events from the evening, a small thought popped into her head--on that she would tuck away to discuss with the group further at another time: Princess Setsuna helped them. She broke from her own peers, even enduring their anger. Why?
"Makoto, will you be okay tonight?" Ami questioned, breaking what felt like an unusually long silence. "Perhaps, you'd like to sleep over in my room? Like old times?" She smiled.
If only they were still children, eager for pillow talk and simpler times. Suddenly, the true weight of their responsibility and the course of their lives felt so heavy. Could they truly live up to the expectations set upon them both to serve the Moon's princess and queen?
